Hey Mike Noe! Yes, I'll be there this year.

I hope we can get another snow trip together this year .. that was a lot of fun.

I see that Walter has done some nice mods to his D2!

See you at MAR!

From Accuweather... (re. Jeanne)
Since the storm will likely be just inland from the coast, another round of heavy rain is possible from southern New England to Florida after a quiet week. Heavy rain from Jeanne will initially affect Florida on Saturday, the Carolinas Sunday night and Monday, and finally spread into the mid-Atlantic states Monday night into Wednesday.

Are you f'ing kidding me? Is there any way that the island could possibly be open?

p.s. Ivan has been kind enough to ramp back up to tropical storm status just in time for MAR as well.

The 7-day forecast for Fork Union isn't showing that as of yet. Currently its showing highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's with only a 20% chance of rain. The reliability of long range forecasts are always questionable and I always fall back to the same basic rule: prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Its going to have to be some pretty wicked weather to convince me to stay home.

Oh, don't get me wrong... I am coming regardless, I am just praying that the island is open so that I am not camping right on top of 750 others. A little mud would make things fun, but there is a fine line between a little water and too much I guess.

BTW, what is the zip code down there?

Just as the river dropped back to pre-hurricane flow rates... now there's more on the way.
On the plus side- they were working on getting ALL the hay bales out of the camping areas last time I was there. Those ate up a lot of space last year.

I didn't get a chance to run down there- I went to the Eastern shore of MD to pick up a rack for the Disco instead. I'll ask around and see if anyone went down there to check on things. I think the rain coming tomorrow is going to change things quite a bit. Hope you guys like mud...
I'll let ya know if I hear anything. Is there anyone who can take a condition report by phone about noon Weds and post it here for those who aren't leaving till after then? Running internet over my cell phone from down there sucks, but if someone can post the info- I'll provide it over the phone if people really want to know.

steve you can call me.

You can call me at 1-800-on-guard and speak to either one of my receptionists Amy or Michelle. Either one of them can dictate you message and provide it to me so I can post it for you. I will tell them to expect you call unless you make other plans.

Neal- thanks, will call when I get there. According to the latest river flow readings, it's on the rise. I'm betting the Island is not accessible. We'll see I suppose, but it's raining like crazy now.

Bremo Bluff is the best reference point- the island is about 6 miles upstream of the rt 15 bridge or so.
Here's a clip from an email I got from someone who was there today:

"It is extremely wet. Poured the whole time we were putting up the tents and you leave tracks anywhere you drive. Water over the causeway is ten inches and rising and they are calling for the river to crest 5 feet above flood stage here on Thursday so no island unless it drops really fast."

I guess we'll see what happens....
