Matchbox Rover Collection

So I decided it's time to share my collection. Combining my love of toys and Rovers, I started collecting Matchbox Land Rovers about 5 years ago, starting with the all white Defender 110. I thought it was a great "blank canvas" to create a custom truck. Since then, the collection has grown to about 35 trucks (not including the duplicates I buy for my son!), and is mostly Matchbox, but I do have a few Hot Wheels RRC's and others.

Here's the collection (or most of it, I've got a few trucks at work):

A few custom trucks I'm working on (still have some finishing touches to do):

A close up of the first custom white Defender I made:

This is a Hot Wheels RRC (started out white) that I painted to match my first real rover, a '94 LWB. I still need to finish some details but it's mostly done:

This is a second Defender, it was my first attempt at adding "kit", a spare tire on the hood! I made one for my son, too, but his has a little more road rash.

One of my favorites, a Disco with full rack. I purchased a Majorette Defender on eBay with this rack, it was almost an exact fit and I just painted some detail. The nice thing is, I can swap the rack onto any of the Discos in my collection. (Next project, a fully kitted G4 Disco!)

If you can't have a collection of 35 real trucks, collecting Matchbox versions is a good alternative. Thanks for sharing.

Wait, no Freelander with roof-top tent and off-road lights?
Of course, you'd have to paint in a miniature Steve Whats-his-name, wearing a life preserver and looking angry while he rescues a stranded overlander in their gravel driveway.

Nice! You guys put me to shame!
I'm sure most of us started with just one. ;)
Here's part of my collection (I haven't added any photos in a couple of years).

To add to the fun of toys and Rovers, I created this replica of an XD based on a Lego set available in stores:

That's got me thinking about my son's lego box...

Not sure if it's a new series or not, but Matchbox has a 110 out now that's a red jungle edition...

I have the "flag flyers" one, out of the package, in terrible condition, that I found at a flea market. I'll throw it in the package for a donation to dweb.
