been talking to rob davis, he is getting very close to a kit for pre D2's.

a 617 out of a sedan, pushed 5200 lbs down the road no problem, add a giant garrett or triple k turbo and an intercooler, and it will handle the weight of our trucks no problem.

Didnt the ZF require a full rebuild to change shift points? If thats still the case, this wont be cheap.

he's got that figured out. rob figured all that out before he started the mechanical. he is very close to getting the d90 running with his kit.

we are doing a swap for him in the next month or so. D1 with his isuzu kit. i'll take pictures.

i remember a thread that had pictures of the whole driveline on a dolly....looked like it was brand new, very nice. the last 617 we bought for a swap looked like a lump of oily coal, but they clean up nice. i feel bad rob got ran off pirate.

Is it the 5 cyl mercedes? If so, this guy has done a bunch http://maeva-us.com/Home_Page.html, exports them to Guatemala. He told me all about the conversion, but since I live in America where gas is cheaper than diesel and v8 rovers are already slow enough I wasn't paying attention. I do remember that he modifies the rover r380 input shaft to work with the merc diesel.

Any updates? Considering some sort of swap and like the idea of the 617 given it's proven reliability.

rob has been busy with other important things, but he is back to work now. i'll give him a buzz and see how it's coming.
