Trying to find out what are the best years for these.
This is not the best place to find that info. Besides one or two experts here most of us have few clues. Prior my D2 purchase a few years of MB SWs were on my possibility list. There are better years and most years can have serious rust issues due to location or water intrusion. Many beaters available.

Good luck as you might just find a jewel.

The tweed interiors are pretty awesome. Passed a 4 door on the highway over thanksgiving and it was going in the neighborhood of 2.5 n/a diesel speed

E320 4matic wagons are pretty damn bomb proof too. My parents finally parted with theirs (non wagon) via an 18 year Asian girl running a red light. 16 year old car with 190K on it and drove like new. Paint and interior help up really nice. Far better than their POS A6. Replaced it with a W212.

Thanks Garrett. I thought I remember you talking about E320's on here before. I was hoping you would chime in. What year E320's?

W210s were made from '95-'02. The earlier gen W124s are certainly nice cars too. But in regards to a more modern MB, the E320s my family have owned, have been great. I'd never get one unless it was a 4matic though - especially living in NY. Unless you run dedicated real snow tires.

Spend the time to finding a really nice one and spend the extra money. They are pretty inexpensive and parts are plentiful via Rock Auto and Benz Bin, etc.

Adding to this, I've had an ML55 for a year and a half.

The M112/113 engines are pretty reliable and easy to work on for the most part.

And yes parts prices, even for genuine Mercedes stuff, are surprisingly affordable.

90's Mercedes had biodegradable engine wiring harness's. Volvos from the same era had similar issues. Just a warning. I never really enjoyed working on Mercedes when I did that kind of thing. R&R engines were a real pain if you didn't work on them full time.

I have a 2000 E320 4 Matic.

I bought it a year ago for $3200 with 135k miles. Previous owner was a Iraqi guy who owned it for 2 months. He bought it at an auction because it was totaled from a broken tail light and small dent. The owner before that was the original owner and it was dealer maintained.

Keep in mind the w210 is the Crown Vic of Germany. Its what the cops and cabs run. Very sturdy vehicle car, but as with any European vehicle proper maintenance is everything. Expect parts to be expensive and some repairs to require a specialist.

The wagons have a hydraulic self leveling system that works quite well and is very reliable.

Mine is one heavy bitch. Then I load it up with the family for ski trips in the MTNs above 10k feet. the 6cyl can hardly get out of its own way, but once up to speed it cruises like a dream.

Dont expect sporty handling either, its a benz not a BMW.

All that said, Its a tank and there is not much out there (definitely not a subaru) that I would rather traverse dangerous mtn passes in that our benz

OH, the forums for Benz suck

I'll agree with Garrett here: My parents had a W210 sedan. Last of the great MB diesels. They were still over-building them at this point. My mother was hit almost head-on the night before my wedding in that car and it saved her life.

Didn't the W210 have corrosion issues?

yes. especially northern cars. 210's were very very boring vehicles.

I disagree with jb. the 124's were the last truly over built Benz E class. The 210 is 'tinny'.

if you have one with self leveling, be prepared to drop a good amount of money when the lines start to leak from rust.

The engines are fine and the transmissions will last if you service them regularly.

You may still find one in great condition south of Virginia, especially in the WASPy economic areas.

Every 210, thru out shop, has rust even the ones detailed regularly. Unfortunately after 15 years even my BMW is starting to rot. Wagons always start in the rear and work thru the quarter panels. The benzs rot at the bottom of the doors up and at the wheel well lips.

They are extremely boring but if you find one in good shape it will rot out before it leaves you stranded. The common issues are crank sensors, stop light switches, and hvac head units. The steering wheel buttons are always sticky, from the coating wearing off but you can buy new buttons.
