Metal trim/shims around D1 windscreen?

I'm getting my 1995 Discovery windscreen (windshield, sorry) replaced. The glass company just called and told me these have some sort of metal trim pieces around the windscreen that hold it in place and cover up some gaps. I'm in Canada so everything's more expensive, but I'm told these pieces are $500. What?!?

I've never heard of this before, and a quick search doesn't yield information about this. Is this normal? If so, my cost has gone from $300 to $800. I'm told the "guy in the back" "is from England" and has done tonnes of these and he knows what he's talking about. I've never used this shop before (it came recommended) and I'm feeling a little suspicious.

Does anyone know what's going on here? Do these pieces have to be replaced? I have another D1 with a cracked windscreen too so everything I'm hearing is getting doubled in my head.

Not sure about metal, but there are rubber windshield gasket pieces (of which there are four, IIRC) that cost about 300 USD.
Doubles the cost of windshield replacement, all right.

Thanks. I went and talked to them and got a much better idea of what they meant. Yeah they just meant the gaskets, which apparently are $500 from the dealer. I'd prefer to not go through insurance, but I can pay my $500 deductible and do that, which practically speaking only raises the price from $300 to $500, rather than $800.

On a more positive note, at least my truck passed its emissions test today. So that's one hurdle cleared.

Thanks. Looks like those parts are available for less from Paddocks or elsewhere. I'll do the math and then either order from there or go through insurance.

I have never done this before, but I thought they're bonded to the windscreen. The glass guy said he'd be happy to try to get the windscreen out and re-use them, and then order pieces if he had to. Since they're apparently metal-backed (what he said) if they're bent or snapped they can't be reused. It would just sit around for 1-3 weeks without a windscreen in it in that case.
