Well, I was going to ask if anyone had a midland xt511 base camp radio, but since dweb was down for the weekend, I had to go by reviews online.

So, Sunday I hit up Cabela's and bought one. AM/FM/WX/GMRS in a 6x8x2 box. Has a 3 LED light on the end and a charge dynamo. Comes with a remote mic for the gmrs, some neat features for scanning all frs/gmrs channels, weather alerts and alarm clock. Also has a USB port to charge a cell phone, ipod or other usb device. Also can take Alkaline batteries (at the same time the rechargable pack is in there).

So far the sound is good. I haven't checked range yet since I don't have someone else within range to chat with. Picks up radio and WX well within my house (which is an RF black hole from all the existing stuff running). I wanted to test how long it would take to recharge the battery from the crank, but it came with a full charge. It's been scanning GMRS since 3pm (9 now) and it's still showing full power. So I guess it's good for a weekend trip :D

No, there seems to be some interference :D

I just asked my radio guys for a GMRS patch on the iPICS system. I'm not holding my breath on that one.

I have considered that radio for our hunting camp as we all use gmrs in the field. I'm interested to see how the range is?

We got 10-12 miles across scrub brush and water. I broke the accessory mic mounting clip the first weekend. exchanged it at Cabela's for a new one. Battery life is odd, maybe I didn't have it fully charged but it died after about two hours of scanning and intermittent use. Takes a good 10 minutes of cranking to charge.
