I am thinking of getting a winch and I am wondering about different makes. I have a WARN XD9000I on my Ford Ranger and I like it, but in the 10,000+ catagory what is the better set up and I will NOT be getting a Hydrolic winch strictly lil'smokers.

Thanks
Ross T.

Well then, have fun replacing moters in that smoker. I had an xd9000i a couple years back and went through motors like crazy. If a smoker is what you want, get one with cheap replacement parts. I know you're sold on smokers but IMO go with a worm gear. RE or Husky.

I have a Milemarker E8000, after a year and a half of moderate use it quit. Pulled it apart and the motor seized due to alot of water/mud build up inside of the motor housing. Gear side was okay. The design for sealing the motor housing was terrible. I wheel where there is usually lots of mud and water, might be different if you keep one dry, but I would not recommend it for mud and water. When it was working it worked great for a cheap winch. To their credit, Milemarker did give me a new motor and housing under warranty, but its eventually going to do the same. Don't be cheap f**k like me, spend a little more and get a better winch. I also have a Warn 9.5ti and it has been great.

i have the e12000.

I beleive it could move buildings if needed. The only real complaint I have is the box location..The design is so it sits on top...gets in the way of the cable. i am going to try to relocate my unit.

i have had it about a year and it pulled 4 rovers at MAR out of 3 foot deep marshy mud from over 100 feet away across a creek.

for self recovery it has never let me down.

I have the MM E 12000 too. Had it for about a year and haven't had any problems. It spends all week in the garage and I don't do mud unless I have to ( I'm lucky and live where there are a lot of rocky moutain trails that don't hold water). I do agree with Will the box is a little cheesey but I reloated mine under the hood where the bottle jack went. I put the plug in next to the LR emblem in the grill.

Dean I live in Michigan and it is all prety much SAND and the odd deep water hole and up in Canada there is a lot of rock and mud(wich I try to avoid). I like having a wich for when I have a quick play by myself.

Is there any way to pull the side off and seal the MM properly yourself?

How are the Husky's sealed up?

Thanks for the input so far.

You're just dying for a MM hydraulic. But failing that, the most waterproof one that I've come across is the warn 9.5Ti, which is pretty much water resistant (and very fast).
