drunk, in a bar(alvin,texas)
i started cutting on this one as soon as i got it home from bass pro shops.
its a remington 799 in .223 it will be a mickey mouse safari rifle when i'm done.

i started out by reworking the triggerguard. they come with a hinged floorplate with a ugly side button release. i cut the triggerguard in half right in front of the trigger bow & cut the front section of the trigger bow off. i raised the rear section of the triggerguard up .200 then welded it back together. then i made a new front section for the trigger bow for a argie 1909 style in the bow release & welded it in. i still need to cut the slot down the middle for the release lever & rework the back of the floorplate to a straddle style by welding a small extension on the back then shaping it.
raising the rear section of the triggerguard gave it the appearance of a drop box. i replaced the factory trigger with one from a sako that fits the contours of the new trigger guard like it was made for it. i have a dakota 3 position safety for it.

i'm reworking the orginal stock to use as a pattern for the duplicator. i'm reshaping it in the pre-WWI british style. i've added a lot of drop, a little bit of cast off, swept the grip back, added a little bit to the LOP and shortened the fore end. once i put the sights on i'll adjust the drop. its still rough right now.

for sights it will get a banded rear sight base with one standing & two folding along with a banded front sight & barrel band swivel. the rear sights will have to be custom made since the stuff necg sells is to big to look right on a rifle this size.

the action is going to get a few tweaks too. i've already started on the thumb cut. the left side rail will get a cut similar to the g33/40 rifles to get rid of the remington lettering and give it more of a mauser look. i'm going to weld a rear square bridge on & i may even do the stirpper clip slot right infront of it.
the holes for the scope mounts in the front ring will be plugged by reaming them with a taper ream then driving paper pins into the holes. then a strip down the center of the front ring will be stippled hiding any traces of where the front ring was drilled & tapped.
