More wiring problems on 95 Disco I

Here's the problem, the previous owner rewired part of the truck for some strange reason. He had it all screwed up. None of the instrument or switch lights would work. No, it wasn't the fuses. I have managed to get the instrument panel and the A/C controls to light up, but I haven't got the switches around the instrument panel to light up. I noticed that all of the switches have a solid black wire. Is this the wire that would illuminate the switches when the headlights are on?

I searched, but could not find anything on this.

This problem is what I like to call a "Bag of Snakes". Previous owner rewiring=bad no matter who had it before you. If I were you, I'd try to bring everything back to OEM as much as possible. As it is, you don't know what power is coming from which circuit, where any additional grounds are, etc. It's all just a guessing game that might even result in an electrical fire sometime down the road.

That being said, I believe that black wires are typically ground wires on Rover vehicles.

Here's a link to the wiring diagram section for the '95 Disco. I tried emailing the file, but it was too large for your email system and bounced back, so I hosted it on a free site. Please ignore the annoying ads. The diagrams can be a bit cryptic, even compared to diagrams from other vehicles, but the first ~10 pages do a good job of explaining their symbols and terminology.

The filename is etlj950x.pdf.

Thanks, I'll download it when I get home. Yeah this is a gvt computer and do like their size limitations. Sorry for the bounce back.
