Mounting winch on Tactical Rovers bumper

Hey all,

I started rebuilding my old Milemarker E8k winch this weekend and was going to test fit it on my Tactical Rovers bumper.
It looks like the grill is completely blocking the rear two winch bolts.

It's looking like I'm going to have to cut a rather large notch in the lower grill and bezel for the winch to fit.

Did anyone else run into this?

I had to cut the lower grill to fit a superwinch TS9500 in my TR bumper. Ive had that bumper for 4yrs now and have done several winch pulls.(To the point the front of my truck was coming off the ground) and it never moved an inch.

Awesome. Thanks for the info.
I have no problems cutting up the truck, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Did you add any bolts to your bumper aside from the 4 crush can bolts to stiffen it up?

I'm swapping out the stock bolts for some beefy grade 8's but even with the four bolts, it still looks like it would rotate under heavy winching or an angled recovery.

Just using the 4 existing holes (minus the crush cans obviously).. Have yet to have any issues. Also using grade 8 hardware.

No 3rd bolt on each mount? Hmmmm, that's odd. Especially for a D1 bumper. D1 bumpers usually utilize a 3rd horizontal bolt through the hole under the body mount. D2 bumpers will often have a 3rd bolt mounted vertically through the frame rail.

I have the first Gen bumper. They have made changes to it since then, not sure if they changed the way it mounts?

I'll take a look at it tonight.
I remember just reusing the bolts from the stock bumper temporarily since I wasn't installing the winch yet.
When I install the winch it will all be replaced with appropriate hardware.

mine came with bolts, and the grade 8 imperial size is bigger than the stock metric bolts and takes up more of the slack. it can rotate a little if its loose, but not much.

What's wrong with the TR bumper? I installed one on my friend's truck and liked it a lot. Powdercoating and welds looked great, fit nice and snug.

Pay no attention to the troll. His taste in bumpers is well established in DWeb lore.

Not sure what you mean? Can you explain what feet forward is?

the winch feet are vertical instead of horizontal. arb does this

no doubt it's stronger, but even in shear the current setup is a high enough safety factor for a 9000lb winch to be considered overkill

You have the option of mounting a winch from the bottom (feet down) and from the front (feet forward). That later is stronger option.

Just Google "broken winch mounting" and I am sure almost all will be a feet down mount. I've seen them twist before and it's almost always on a Jeep, since almost all mount that way. It's usually from a side load while winching.

I did not buy this bumper new.
Fell into a ridiculous deal on craigslist for this including a pair of Hella 770's.
It didn't come with hardware and I wasn't going to argue.

I doubt you'd pass on this bumper for the price I got it for despite any issues you may have towards the company.
