Mpg Question

I've had my 1996 SE7 for just over a week now and I did a milage test on it (filling, driving for 100+ miles, filling again and doing the math) anf it came out to 14.41 Mpg.

It has 108K on it and I drive about 70% city streets and 30% freeway. I'm wondering if that's about right, or if that's any indication of a problem with tuning or something else.

I'm assuming that it's ok because I was faxed the service records from the place that took care if it for the owner before me. It looke like she did not spare a dime on keeping this thing up.

Thanks,

Daniel

I'd say thats pretty normal. I usually get 14/15 in my DII, 17 highway.

I once achieved 19mpg in my 1998 DI!

speed is everything, I normally cruise around 75-80 and get 12-13

today I did 60-70 for 165 miles and have just over half a tank left (the smaller half)

Best MPG = lowest speed of highest gear.

I have this issue where for some reason I keep putting my car in 3 instead of D. I think its because in our Grand Cherokee the D feels like where is where the 3 is on the Rover.

I drove for probably 15 minutes on the highway in 3rd gear wondering why my engine was so responsive and later why I was running at such a high RPM.

Wow! Second Mpg test (146 miles this time) on the '96 SE7 and I got 15.86mpg! As I said bofore I do mostly city streets, but this time there was a trip the the zoo in Santa Barbara that was like 52mi all freeway.

I thought I'd be doing like 12mpg when I got it so I'm happy.

I am pulling about 17mpg average out of mine, with 166K on the clock. But then again mine is not a daily driver. I also drive like an old man when I do drive it, 60-65 or less on the highway, gentle starts from lights, and other moves to save gas. I also put in 93 when I fuel up, since I only put gas in the truck once every couple of weeks.

And you are bitchin'.... I've never had anything over 12 except when I had to limp home doing 53 mph. Rovers in the gas version suck gas like you own an oil well.
