Decision time with budget in mind. 80% onroad 20% off road. I don't want AT's. Looking to get involved with club in near future to go 4x4ing.

Toyo MT's found a great price- heard that they are between a MT and AT. Soft which is great for road but bad for durability

Kumho 834- BFG MT Clone- cheaper and positive reviews so far

Kumho KL71- Look great, cost efficient not enough reviews yet

Thoughts?

Thanks for the input- Kumho's are bad huh? Why? Just curious- I heard the Cooper Discoverer STT wear really fast although they are probably my favorite tire for looks. I'll check out the Geo's...

I would put the BFG MT's with the Toyo MT's-
BFG- seem to be the popular choice- I just cannot find a price that matches the Toyo MT's at $145.00/tire. The best price for BFG MT's are $177.00/tire.

Don't buy based on looks! Get a tire that will work the best for your terrain and driving habits. Also don't buy cheap tires as they will get torn up on the trail, and you will wind up spending more to replace them in the long run. Just my 2 cents.

Kumho's work just fine and at a great price (guy in our club runs them on a Series truck). You didn't mention size - another nice quality and cheap MT is the Mastercraft one (made by Cooper) and the Hercules tires are great too - also cheap(er)...

i had dunlop mud rovers and they had great wear while i had them. maybe they get progressively worse as they wear? anyhoo, i got them at discount tire for fairly cheap; less than $130 IIRC. on the road they were great. easily the same in terms of ride quality and noise as the A/Ts they replaced. make sure you stay on top of rotation and balancing.

now i'm running swampers and they bring the sux on the road but every mile on the trail is perfect.

firestone destination m/t's are a good mud tire, they also wear good on the road since they have a harder rubber compound. they tend to chunk in the rocks but if you don't plan on playin in the rocks I wouldn't worry about it. the price isn't too bad either compared to some other mud tire brands.

I don't know if you have a Big O tire in your area but there big foot xt is a sweet mud tire that isn't too loud. Wears good too.

Maxxis Bighorn

Only mud tire I've ever run, but not too loud, wear is good, and the price was right. Check them out.

I've been a big fan of Maxxis tires for a while.
I've run their Mudzillas & Creepy Crawlers on my XJ and now have Bighorn Mudders on both Discos.
Drove them to Wyoming and back.
Relatively smooth, not too loud, and priced under $100 for 265-75-16.

If you have time to wait (Mid-summer/Fall?) I would look at the new BFG Mud terrains. Spent some time with Bill Burke recently and they seem to be pretty awesome tires...

I run goodyear and like them just fine fore 20% offroad use.
