I've been hearing a rattle comming from the muffler so I decided to take a look at it. I found that it's cracked pretty much all thw way around the outlet. I would assume the dealer wants a pretty penny for a new muffler. So what do you all recommend I repleace it with? Thanks. :D

in some cases, the rattle is from the catalytic convertor due to loose bits inside. Summit Racing has replacements at a good price.

as far as a muffler, any decent shop can set you up with a new one. you don't need a LR OEM version.

Ditto, go to a local muffler shop. Usualy the smaller shop the better the price. Dont need name brand. The price gap between chain stores and mom and pop shops are HUGE  I had my entire exhaust system replaced on my Defender for $190 at a small shop. I had Midas Muffler give me a estimate of $600-800. It pays to shop around.

Hey Kevin-
what shop did you use? did they put in new cats? did they have the right size in stock, or did you have to order them and bring them in?
so far, thats been my problem with the local shops.

go to a local muffler shop.

this is the way to go. i went to a local shop and got a new muffler put on for 85 bucks. they had to order a muffler to fit my '88, so it took about 2 days to come in, otherwise no problems at all.
