The news said the attacks were directed towards westerners, which makes sense, aside from the police station, but I'm sure that was so they'd be in their own turmoil and be less able to respond.
So then my thoughts turned to the companies like Infosys which so a booming business in supporting technology in the west.
What would be a likely target if terrorists wanted to have an immediate effect on western companies that rely heavily on technology?
But by all means, let's continue our brain drain.

This is a very frustrating event because it's really hard to make sense of exactly what has gone down. I'm looking to reading the Wikipedia entry in a few weeks, once everything has been sorted out.

When the story first broke, I immediately suspected ISI-sponsored Pakistanis. Whenever I hear of responsibility being claimed by a "previously unknown group", I think Iranian Revolutionary Guards or Pakistani ISI proxies. However, the media is now reporting that the terrorists are Indian and Bangladeshi.

Interesting developments . . .

Batchelor: Mumbai Intelligence Failure
December 3, 2008
RBO

John Batchelor writes this morning on his blog that on his Sunday, November 30, 2008, radio show he spoke with Bahukutumbi Raman (Ram), retired Indian Intelligence officer at Chennai, re the scale of the attack on Mumbai. Raman clearly indicated that the operation was LeT, supported by the Pakistan secret Police, or ISI, and all this has links to what we call Al Qaeda and what Ram calls IIF, or Osama Bin Laden’s International Islamic Front For Jihad Against Crusaders and Jews.

The investigation is now going deeper into the falure before the attack than it required to go into the names of those responsible. The culprits are well known and named, all with LeT addresses and links to ISI and to Al Qaeda.

The next crisis is not military but rather political. . . .

India, Pakistan: The Dynamics of Conflict

. . . Analysis Although a military confrontation between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Nov. 26 militant attacks in Mumbai is not a foregone conclusion, the domestic situation within India and Islamabad’s likely inability to placate Indian concerns make such a confrontation a possibility. . . .

The geo-political chess game continues.

Yeah - I've been there by the hotel before. Right out front is a pier where shortly before I had visited, some dudes rolled up on motor bikes and tossed hand grenades at people walking along the water front. My wife's cousin works in a building next to the hotel, just made it out from work about 15 minutes before the sh*t went down.

It always amazes me that anyone/group could think they would achieve anything meaningful with this type of brutality. Just kills/hurts innocent people and nothing else...

Why does it amaze you? There is a political purpose to these bombings. Take Spain for example. The bombings that happened in March 2004 had the effect of getting a leftist, anti-war government elected. The leftists are much less likely to attack the terrorists, so they take actions that further their cause.

Do you think that these people think that this is some type of military action where killing some of the enemy is the goal?
