Any one else here doing this? My 6 yr old son (now 7) Keegan received a dirt bike for Xmas. A Honda CFR70 just to play around in the back yard. Neighbor comes by and suggest we come to the local MX track ?just to practice, you don?t have to race?, yea right. Well he?s gone from coming in last and getting lapped to winning his first race last weekend. A couple of pics.

I had a 1999 CR 125 that i took out to the tracks. I have a good friend who is racing in the pro series now. My advice after being part of it is to make sure you have the money for it. Its a blast and I still wish i would have never sold my bike but boy does it get expensive.

Congrats to him as well.... :D

That rocks! I know the bug...oh boy do I. My son races BMX and he just turned 7. He is a two-time state champ and keeps us busy travelling the country for Nationals. Matter of fact, I just booked tickets to the Grand Nationals in bee-u-tiful Tulsa, OK.

The 'make sure you have the money for it' comment is right on. Once your kid starts doing well at a sport its all over. Its not so much the equipment as it is the travel. Big races = big points = travel = a big minus in the bank account.

I have put my son on a CRF50. He had fun, but MX racing is just not in the bag right now. I hear there is just too much cheating at the national level for the 50's - 110's. I still might pick him up a couple for the kids for Christmas just for fun. Uh-oh...did I really say that? ;)
