My Detroit locker for your stock diff

Since I could not swap the Detroit locker from the Disco to the D90, it's available to someone, in SoCal, that has a rotoflex donut on their drive shaft. The plan is to swap 3rd members, your 3rd member with stock diff for mine with a Detroit locker.

I'm asking $650 for the swap so for that amount you can be locked. Not a bad deal considering a new one plus installation can cost close to a grand. I'll even include the 90wt oil and correct gasket.

The only other requirement is that you have to invest a little elbow grease. In other words, I remove mine, you remove yours, swap, then install each. Since it's the entire 3rd member, the backlash is set, so there's no need to set it or adjust anything.

Please don't ask if I'll drive to San Francisco, San Diego or any where farther than Orange County, CA, unless you're willing to pay for my gas and my lodging in addition to my price for the Detroit :bigok:

No one in Socal, with a Disco I, that has Rotoflex, within 100 miles from the porn capital of the world?

If it's because you don't want to get dirty/greasy, we can work something out.

It's a long story, just searched for the thread on dweb, but it appears to have been removed. Anyhow, here's a parallel thread on another board:

BTW, if a classic shape RR owner wants to swap their stock diff/drive shaft combo (+$650) for a diff w/ Detroit locker and Rotoflex shaft combo, I'm game.

Trust me, I'd much rather swap between my Disco and my D90. It's just not possible any more.

to play devils advocate here, i don't think $655 is a great price.

You can get a new DT for $500, add some new pressed on bearings for $50, have the backlash setup at a shop - $50 (assuming you pull the diff), or setup the backlash your self. Under $600....

With that said, I have a stock carrier I can trade you??? :D

Oh, I dunno... anywhere you buy, there'll be tax and/or shipping involved. Then you factor in the bearing, and cost of pressing it in if you don't have a press. I know very few places that'll do it for free. :)

For a few, yeah, it might not be a great price because you have the tools, time, press, expertise to set the backlash, etc. But for the rest of us, I believe it's worth that much. At least that's who I'm targeting ;) Not trying to get rich off the deal, just what I consider a fair price.

So... since I'm going to have to buy a Detroit for the D90, where can I buy it for $500? Thanks for the offer, but I have the stock diff off the Disco. At this point, I just want to trade, 3rd member for 3rd member.

Cheers!
