S&W M&P 15 TS, my first AR. Haven't fired it yet, so not sure how I'll like those magpul sites. Hunting feral hogs next Easter weekend, so I'll have plenty of fire time.

Nice! I am not a fan of the Magpul sights at all. Currently on my AR I am using an LMT rear sight and am looking at replacing it with an A.R.M.S #40L because it serves similar function to the Matech BUIS but without the problems that the Matech has with the metal detent wearing out.

Are you thinking about putting an optic on it?

The MBUIS probably aren't the best thing to do more than confirm zero and then fold back down out of the way of whatever optic you decide to go with.

Should be a fun rifle, you looking to do mostly varmint/hog work (lends to optic choices)

Basically. I'll take it to the range every now & then, but for the most part shooting varmits. Any opinions on optics?

My opinions on AR optics are varied by application and how much you want to throw at it.

-I love the ACOG/RCO as an all around excellent optic for being able to reach out to 500m, but I don't love $1300 for one given that most engagements I can really see in most applications going out that far.
-Eotech is what my AR has on it b/c I love shooting through a big screen TV without parallax. Throwing a magnifier behind it gives you 300m range.
-Aimpoint's are great for rugged reliability and fantastic battery life. Magnifier application works there too.

Those really round out my top three but much of that is the bias of the Marine Corps in me. Lots of other stuff on the market these of course; for budget minded application I'd consider stuff from Primary Arms (their T1 clone, for example is great for the price).

+1 for Primary Arms. I've been running one of their micro red dots on my AR and absolutely love it. Its a solid piece and a real bargin for the money, IMO. If this rifle ever sees any serious use I'll switch to a real Aimpoint, but at this point, I can't jsutify $600 for a range optic.

I have the T1 clone on my AK & their green dot reflex on my Umarex MP5SD...both are very nice for the $$$-like you these are mostly for plinking and isn't the SHTF gun so its good enough.
