I've eluded to this purchase a few times on other threads but I did not want to go into much detail until the transaction was complete. Saturday, I flew out of BWI to Detroit to make a purchase on a 1969 88" IIa. I drove it just over 600 miles in that same day to arrive home before last call.

Originally, the Rover was pastel green but has since been painted bright yellow. That isn't the only thing that has changed since leaving the factory.
  • Chevy 283 (4.6l) V8 - Made famous in the first generation Corvette
  • Edelbrock 1404 Performer Series carb
  • Edelbrock Pro-flow airfilter
  • Chevy power steering
  • Unknown trans, not Rover. Reverse is down to the right.
  • Salisbury rear
  • 35x12.50R15 BFG ATs
  • Warn M11 hubs
  • Warn Black Diamond shocks (seen better days)
  • Hard top, full canvas top and bikini/fume/tonneau top
  • 32"x18" radiator of unknown origin
  • 11" drum brakes
For a Series truck, she can roll. A few times on the Ohio turnpike, I was doing 75 without a thought. She's running glass packs right now but I've ordered some Magnaflow's to quiet down the dual exhausts.

The seller was young and had no idea about anything. I feel I got the deal of a lifetime due to his ignorance. Everything with a seal leaks but that is rectifiable. He felt it was dying.

Not only did he not know anything about the setup, he didn't remember the name of the guy he purchased it from 4 years earlier. He thought the guy was a salesrep but did not know for whom or if he traveled. He did believe that this is the person who had the modifications done but it could have been further up the ownership chain.

If anyone knows anything about this rig, or who did the buildup please let me know.

I've taken an inspection mirror to it looking for some sort of stamping and can't find anything.

thats a crappy picture, looks like np435. If it is it will have a aluminum top cover. Otherwise its probably an sm465. (both have reverse next to 4th) Probably has a 3/4 in thick adapter with a sealed bearing in it and a stick welded mainshaft. Lets see the steering . . .

Any underhood shots? I'd love to someday build something similar.

I'd like to see how close it is to the radiator and how much bulkhead hacking had to take place.

I may be able to whip up some shots tomorrow. The radiator was actually kicked forward at the bottom, not because of the engine, but to clear the steering box. I've got a new radiator in route with some electric fans and am going to dispense with the pulley fan. It has been useless below 40 mph and I need some extra cooling.

Ike, here's a shot as requested.

Thanks. I'm bringing it to MAR so you can get a nice close-up. Hell, I might take Ivan out for some Night Ops and the old PR game of "good touch bad touch". LOL
