Keep it up
SCREW ALL THE PURISTS
These car companies don't care where they get there parts from (ever look at '90 XJ)
It's your truck. You are the one stuck with an over engineered car that dosnt meet real world standards with driving and maintenance.
And what a boring world if all you can do is bolt on crap that is shoved down our throats as 'rover specific'
Hell, I just dropped in a double bypass radiator from jegs into a 99 d2 with an inline tstat and electric fan.
Keep up the good work!
It's ok to be a loyalist, but when things don't work for you, make them better

So a few weeks ago I mentioned that i tightened a lot of steering/suspension bolts on the truck. When I did that I noticed the 2 bolts that bolt the pan-hard/steering box together would get very tight but if you put a single wrench on it and tighten it would ever so slightly spin. Seemed odd. At the time I didn't have much time to look into it. So over the weekend I took those bolts out. I ran across part of my steering issue. The bolts that were used were too small. The ID on the steering box looks like 1/2" but the bracket side needed a 5/8". Not sure what was going in there. The previous owner used a 1/2" bolts. So the bracket side had slop. I brought the big boy drill out and drilled 5/8" holes all the way though. Then installed some fresh 5/8" G8 bolts. Made quite an improvement in my steering/death wobble. Im 99% sure the rest is balancing and tires. Some fresh rubber, balancing and alignment is next on the list.

Old vs New

On a side note i have a 10" LED light bar on the way for the front. Other than that this build may get slow for a little bit. My racing season is kicking off and fuel/slicks are expensive...

I'm kind of with the haters that you killed a great classic, but jeebus man you have skills. Unreal. Before you hate on him, read the build thread on Pirate. You may not like the end result, but the quality of the build is outstanding and there was a lot of rot that he removed/replaced.

There are a few ideas here that I'm going to steal. I love what you did with the all the rubber hoses.

Thanks man. Each to there own. If we all had the same rigs that would be pretty boring. Its not your cup of tea and I dig your opinion. Thanks for giving my build a read. Im no where near done.

Couple of updates. Nothing major. I plan on going on a LR trail ride in a couple of weeks. I figured I'd pick up a CB. So I ordered a compact Cobra CB. I also picked up and installed a tunable 3' Fire stick antenna, ss spring, and fire ring cable. I built the mount when I built my bumper. Im glad its put to good use now.

I picked up some crappy "projectors" off ebay when I got road worthy. I never really thought they looked that great. Prior to buying them I had a set of military LED headlights but the seller backed out. So I'v been keeping my eye out for a new set. Snagged some of ebay. They are 24V so I have some 12v to 24v DC/DC step up converters on the way. Id have to say they look pretty bad ass. Finally I'll be able to see at night. They are DOT and super bright.

So 'v been chasing the death wobble saga around. I had my tires balanced over the weekend. Surprisingly the wheels I built are pretty round and so are my tires. So my next step is to adjust the preload on my swivels.

More soon...

Personally, I'm not a fan of the LED light club.

I agree with rover4x4. I've also seen some D-90 owners throw those LED's in and they just look like crap.

You can get great lighting in a RRClassic or D90 by doing the direct power/relay and some IPF or Hellas.

I did however add a hood strut to my Classic bonnet....

Best.

love following this...keep it up!

Thanks man.

way to bastardize a perfectly good Classic.

Oh you just wait. I know how much you love this build... Wait till it's linked with coil overs. Im not afraid of some cutting, grinding, and welding. Im just getting started my friend.

As you can see I have a "different" look. Im not going for what anyone else has. I think they look bad ass but aside from that they are legit. LED's are hear to stay. There is nothing but pros. Low amp's. Super bright. Controlled beam. Long life. I can go on and on. Ill let you guys use the same Halogen technology from the 30's. Yeah the struts made my life a lot easier. For a while I was opening the hood quite a bit.

Please read thought the thread. Again, this is NOT a finished build nor is it close to being finished. Im building another wheel. I just haven't finished it. I will say though. It takes about 15 min to swap out tires with the rim still on the truck. Gotta love the Humvee beadlock wheels.

got it built yet? do you have on board compressor? is this safe to do?

Another one bites the dust.

Cause its not a jeep, that spare tire carrier looks like fun

Douche bag

Seriously? I get it. You don't like me or my build. Im perfectly ok with that. In fact these are all of your comments on this thread. You tell me who the "Troll" is. It's pretty funny to see (what I assume is) as grown man acting like a 13 year old little girl. Douche bag? That's what you decided to posted? Grow the fuck up. You said your piece. Move the fuck on old timer. You stick with your run of the mill rover. Im going to continue fucking this truck up....

BTW I thought Dweb was for serious Rover guys. For the most part it looks like a bunch of bitches... If you want to be one Rover4X4 is leading the example. Just saying. There are some cool cats on here but damn...

Yes, he's the douche!

I am... I get it... Move the fuck on...

Iv been limited on time due to my racing schedule. I have the wheel and the plates cut. I just nee to sit down and weld it up. It's not a huge priority at the moment. Of course I'll have to powder coat the face ORANGE! I do not have an on-board compressor yet. I haven't taken it off road yet due to racing. But I do have a tank I could take to air up with. Is it safe? I cant see what it's not. The military uses it.

I was saying that sarcastically, because Rover4x4 is being a douche.

The military carry only a spare tire and change the tire with the rim on the vehicle and then air up? I've never seen a picture of that. All H that I have seen with spare have a real spare.

Not sure what is involved with taking off a tire and reinstall on your wheels. Not sure also how safe it would be when on the trail. You tell me.

You are correct. The military uses spares on wheels. The obvious is it makes sense. Id do the same if my wheel was built and powder coated.

The Humvee's use run flats inserts inside these tires. The run flat also works as an inner tire bead lock. Run flats suck for off roading, but you want to obtain the use of the bead locks. So you run PVC inserts (like most anyone who is using Humvee wheels for off roading). This allows for the use for the double bead lock feature to work and with very little air pressure.

So what's involved? I have the 12 bolt wheels (they make 8, 12, and 24 bolt wheels). Basically you unbolt the 12 bolts on the face of the wheel. Pull the tire off. Install the new tire. Bolt the face back on and air up. The PVC inserts keeps the tire bowed out and when the wheel is bolted together it seals up. No need for popping the bead on with air to seat it. With this wheel there is not chance for the tire ever popping off the rim front or back. So if the tire gets punctured its still able to drive on the trail.

Is it safe? I don't see why not? I think what would be unsafe would be having your rig unstable while trying to change any wheel/tire for that matter. Again, let me be clear that I have every intension of building a wheel. This is very temporary.
