I don't have anything recent with me. Remind me this evening and I'll look around at home for a relatively recent photo of the car.

Well these may be a couple years old but it was a cool Boxster then too.

- Andrew.

If you read up on your Porsche history, you will likely come to the same realization that I did. The Boxster (along with the 944 and 914) are what Ferdinand Porsche intended Porsche cars to be about. Lightweight, low hp, excellent handling, American-big-hp-killers. While the 911 has contracted the need-more-and-more-hp disease the Boxster is left to be the "true" Porsche Ferdinand always dreamed of.

So you'd rather have this:Boxster S

than this?:Choice 2

Note: being a college student I have no money to even think of buying a Porsche. When I bought the Disco I found an early Boxster w/~100k miles for the same price as my DII, but got scared out of buying it due to not being able to service it due to living conditions AND having another AFROTC cadet's 968 have an engine fire the week before I went down south to buy a car.

Hmmm, worried about maint. yet I bought a DII, that was smart :ack:

Yeah, that brings up another question...where in the heck do you get them serviced if you don't live ANYWHERE near a Porsche dealer?

(not that I can afford one anytime soon either...)

Wow, what a stir of opinions...and thanks to those with the well wishes!

"that thing looks Hideous" too funny...taste is subjective so to each their own.
I have attached some more pics for your outright disgust...Ha Ha!

JSQ - Made in Valmet.

RoverLady - Merc fan here as well, I just found this car to be more fun than the SLs I had looked at and the sound of this engine over 4500 RPMs is enough to keep the stereo CD player off indefinately.

MikeDougherty- and I have come across Tool Pants and others on several boards...the information is endless. I have not joined PCA as of yet but it looks like one of the things to do. Thanks for the info.

draaronr - and you area correct the Neon was calling me but I was able to pull myself away long enough to drive away in the Boxster.

DannyDisco - I certainly would not choose the Boxster over that 911 but you are talking apples and oranges as far as price is concerned. Even a slightly used Boxster S will cost you less than half of what they are asking for that 911. The bottom line with this car is that it can outperform a car with much more horsepower when it comes to examples like the pictures AndrewClarke posted because of its balance and extremely low center of gravity...bringing her into a turn and applying the brakes later than everyone else will usually get around the fastest!

Well, I said the Boxster is more of what F. Porsche intended when he set out to build a car. Mid-engined, lightweight, nible. A number of x-fellow Boxster racers have given up on their Boxsters in favor of a GT3. Which had me thinking seriously about it. But I do love my Boxster, so no I would likely not get rid of it in favor of a GT3. Which again, is adding more power to the 911 chasis. Anyone can go fast in a fast car, but it takes skill to go fast in a slow(er) car.

Now, when the GT3 RS comes to the states in Spring of '07 I am going to do what I can to get one. But that's mostly because every true Porsche-phile dreams of one day owning an "RS". However, I will not likely give up the Boxster for it. I love that car way too much. Got too much of my money and time invested in it.

Thanks for posting the pics Andrew, that's pretty much how the car looks today.

AWSOME!!

Throw a few coins on the floor for me.

I could get a 97 salvage title completely rebuilt by a Porsche dealer for 12k. Is this a good deal or should I run as fast as I can. Would a good dealer or independent mechanic inspect this for me?

Roverlady - You have to try to find an Import Repair shop with Porsche experience and hope for the best. Unfortunately that won't always get it done as was the case for the dealer I got it from. There was an airbag light on after a recent horn repair and the only way to have it reset was....wait for it....the magical dealer reset. So they had to eat the hour labor at 99p/h at the local dealership prior to its delivery to me.

i buy salvage title now and then only because i know who wrecked it.

if you ever decide to part with it
which you most likely will

its hard to sell to a stranger with a salvage title.

in my experience a friend usually buys from me as they know i wouldnt buy crap.

think in the long run.

Roverjoe - a 97' can be had for slightly more than that without a salvage title...I would do a little more surfing and find a cleaner option. There are so many out there right now. The only thing you really should do prior to purchasing one of these beasts is pay for a mechanic's inspection first as they can have dash error lights reset that stay out for a few cycles of run time thus planting you into a large repair only weeks after purchase. Good luck!

OK you've just had your automobile privileges card revoked.

OK I'll make a honest attempt to get my card back :)

performace is impressive
power to weight ratio very impressive
with toyota power no doubt sound and reliable

but the lines, my 6year old makes better car sketches
and some of his cars only have 3 wheels

all joking aside the body looks very plastic and very cheap
a sort of hodge podge of last minute ideas

the porsche.......CLEAN............begining to end ;)
