My window won't go up and sometimes not down

I did a quick search of the forums and didn't see anything about this so I hope I'm not asking a question that has already been asked and fixed.

I went to put down the driver side window yesterday and it indeed went down but when it got all the way down the motor kept running. When I tried to put the window back up, all i get is the window motor running...no window going up.

I removed the door side panel (is that what you call it?) and saw that a bolt had come out...looks like there are three or four bolts that hold the motor in place. When i put the bolt back the window goes up and down, but when it gets all the way down the motor keeps going and I hear this click noise as if the gears are slippling.

On the way home from a friend's house the window went down only a few inches and stopped...got the clicking noise again, and the window wouldn't go up until I pulled up on it a little.

Any ideas?

It's a 2002 Disco 2...with 66,000 miles..this is the first thing to ever go wrong with it.

regulator is very very common. I wouldn't replace the motor. Do a search. These are one of those items i would buy genuine for the replacement. I didn't and ended up doing it twice. Not a difficult job - 2hrs max.

This seems to be a common problem with the driver window on D2's.

The deal I had is my motor was spinning just fine but the window was doing nothing. Honestly I didn't really care until the window slid down so now it's time to take a look-see...

I took the door off and found the gear sitting at the bottom of my door panel - so at least I found the problem. The gear fell off.

So fellas, how the heck do I get the gear back on? I'm trying to find a picture but no luck... If I just knew the orientation it'd help, and would like to do this without having to take the passenger side door apart if possible haha... until then I'm just bracing it up... getting cool here in Michigan anyway... :)
