Mystery part - what is it?

2001 Disco.

Part location: Under hood behind coolant resevior / fuse box. It is mounted to firewall, is round, about 6" diameter, tapered, 8" long. 3 rubber mounts hold it to a frame.

The rubber mounts are broken so this part (which I'm sure is very important) is just hanging there.with a couple cables going to it.

So, what the hell is it? I'm considering a bailing wire fix.

Ah Ha, found my old Rave. Secondary Air Pump it is, now nicely mounted with galvanized steel wire. Thanks for the answers,
