Mystery sound behind glove box

There is a regular, intermittent noise that seems to be coming from behind the glove box of our Disco. It is a faint sound, that sounds something like electric hair clippers being turned on and off. You know, the Wahl clippers my mom used to cut my hair when I was 5 years old. It cycles on about every 15 seconds or so and lasts only about 1-2 seconds. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

We've owned this Disco for close to 9 years and for 92K of its 112,000 miles, but I've never heard this sound before. I've also been a regular reader of these forums but don't recall ever seeing this discussed.

Have the same thing - has done it ever since I owned - usually only when it's cold out. Everyone says it is the SAI - but mine does not have that.

Never got an answer on it....would like to know.

have you changed your wires in awhile? I had an electric noise that was weird like this. It was the wires arcing when I would accelerate. worth looking to see if you have a light show just to be sure.

mine were only arcing back by the coil pack

Interesting idea, but the sound is independent of engine speed. I'll check after dark tonight just in case, though.

It's not the wires - it's inside. I have had the wires doen twice since I had this noise and am at almost 200k...it's done it since new.

Mine does it too... both of my D-II's do it... Sound like it is behind the radio or glove box....... will only do it for like 2 seconds and then go off.... only really notice it when i come to a stop...(no its not the abs!) :-D

Is it independent of the blower motor? What I mean is, if the HVAC system is totally shut off will it still do it?

Next question, is it independent of the radio?

It's a dash weasel. They're pretty common, just put out an old glass milk bottle with some cheetos in it and when the weasel comes out to eat at night, the cheetos will make him so fat he can't get out of the bottle!
