Read a thread the other day that the NAPA gold 1542 filter is the same as the regular gold filter with more capacity. changing to Rotella 15w/40 to quiet down a knocking sound....don't ask, don't wanna know....is there any advantage/downside to the 1542?

OK, can't find that p/n at NAPA? man, I gotta stop smoking crack in the morning.....

Stay away from fram! I used the K&N 3001, although it was with Rotella 5w-40 synthetic its worked great!

i went to the 5w40 on my last change due to cold start temps. just FYI for anyone, it seaps through the rocker covers, oil pan, etc. I never had seepage with 15w40, however, it was too thick during 0 and below 0 temps.

A knocking sound? Or a ticking? Oil won't fix a knock, but if you have a noisy lifter or something you might try a dose of Marvel Mystery OIl. It helped flush mine out, and my ticking is gone. I run rotella 5w-40 (blue jug) from walmart, and either a Purelator or Mobile 1 filter. Most of the local stores run a special, buy 5 quarts get a mobile one filter cheap or free.

Thanks for the feedback, I think it's warm enough here to go with the 15w/40, we shouldn't see any thing below freezing anymore. I know oil won't fix a knock but in might quiet it and preserve whats left of whatever is knocking for a while. I guess I'll use a regular napa gold filter, or I could duct tape an old coffee can up there...but that'd only be a little better than the Fram :smilelol:
