ok, the bearings are shot in my rear differential. rather than trying to track down the bearings and everything, i figurerd i would just see if anybody had a used diff they would be willing to let go cheap!

you need the whole third or just the carrier, i've got a couple low mileage stock carriersif that's what you need. a complete third will be way more than a re-bearing...fyi

as for tracking down bearings, here:
timken#
M88046 flange side cone
M88010 flange side cup
HM801310 gear side cup
HM801346X gear side cone

or just call GBR and have Bill send them to you

mark, not sure what i need the reason i thought about replacin the rear diff is because the seal went and i am not sure how long it ran low on fluid. the bearings are out because of a rotoflex conversion gone bad (didnt have the correct spscer) so now the rear diff whines bad! probably just the output bearing which i already have, but may also be the input from running low on fluid...i know that i cant change iether w/out pulling the diff (which i have never done) so i figured i would price a good used rear diff...what is the carrier and what is the 3rd member...i dunno? mabe yins could help me figure out the best route here!

the third is the complete drop out or carrier housing (everything that bolts into the axle as an assembly, make sense?)

the carrier is part of the third member that the crown wheel or ring gear is bolted to, it is held into the carrier housing w/ 4 bolts and 2 bearing cap retainers.

dont waste you time w/ trying to source a used unit, you'll spend way more than you need to. simply remove your axle shafts and drive shaft, and pull the third out. put third in a 5 gallon Home Depot "homer" bucket and either ship to GBR for overhaul or send to a local drivetrain shop like Sixstates, a rebearing at that point won't cost you any where near as much as used unit you have no history on. these diffs are easier than a ford 9" so any shop that can to those can do these. just tell them the backlash is nominal (.004"-.006") and the preload is about 20-25 inch pounds.

Marc does know his stuff, but if you want the used diff I have one with 60k on it never been offoaded, was removed for the detroit install, obviously I don't have it in the carrier. $40 plus shipping and its yours.

aaron, you have a spare carrier, or housing?

i'll give you $40 for the housing if that's the case... that is of course if barefoot doesn't want it,

$40 is also a super great price for a good carrier...

Okay I made a terminology error. I have the carrier ie the gears. Assuming what is meant by housing to be the metal or hogshead as it is sometimes called.

yes, i think mark, although good advice, that i will buy a used diff as mine (w/130k) has quite a bit of slop in it...i was told by my mechanic, who has always done me right, that it would be best for my situation to buy a new or used to replace! i sent u an e-mail about the diff if u dont get it poat here and i will give u my phone #.....
