Shitty mechanic here in Uganda changed the timing belt on a friend's 96 4runner with the 3.4L motor. Broke the crankshaft pulley in the process so I went and towed it to my house. Couldn't find an original pulley here, so I ordered the lightweight one from URD. Toyota of Dallas couldn't get an original one in before our friend flew here last week.

Anyways, the video is the engine at idle. It's hard to see in the video, but the pulley has a very small wobble to it. The bolt is as tight as we can get it, and the moment you add any sort of throttle, it smooths out perfect. Just wobbles slightly at idle.

Should I be worried? At this point, the only option is to order a factory original from Toyota Dallas and wait another 3 weeks for the next friend to come over and bring it along.

This may seem like a dumb question. Is there not an easier way to get parts to where you are? Like a country closer?

Depends on the part. Most motors brought into Uganda are the diesel option, not petrol. So for this one, no one had a pulley. Toyota of Kampala said they didn't have it, called Nairobi, not there either. Said next option was South Africa, then straight from Japan. Estimated a month to track it down and get it here. Screw that.

Took everything back apart to double check why it's wobbling. Now can't get the damn thing off. Sprayed it with some WD40 and will try again in the morning.

This thing has become a real pain in the ass! Pulley looks great and the belts line up fine - just a bit shaky and the bolt won't seem to stay tight.

Is that because the pulley on your 91 is shot or wobbling on a crankshaft pulley is, or can be, normal?

I'm gonna call it normal for mine; it's been the same for 13 years now...
