...remember the thread about 'how bad is this oil spill'? Well, here's an article that believes this could essentially be doomsday, but for an entirely DIFFERENT reason - a gigantic and explosive release of methane into the atmosphere.

http://www.helium.com/items/1882339...ster-may-have-triggered-a-world-killing-event

I'm very curious what you guys think about it. In my mind, if true, this could be the scariest thing I've ever read. ...if true. Yet the sources he sites seem to be legit, and the secrecy surrounding the event is very troubling.

Yes, its the end of the world as we know it. (I think that would make a good song)

The cause of the Permian/Triasic extinction has never been fully explained, it was THE worst extinction event in terms of Percentage of species lost(unless you count the great oxidation event) and more importantly took MILLIONS of years.

WIKI-pedia "Siberian Traps"

EDIT; In other words you'll be fine in the near future
EDIT V.2: BTW you are currently living through a mass extinction event that started right after the last ice age and is ongoing as we type...

Sounds like a huge opportunity to dutch oven a whole lot of spouses!

As a geologist, BS!

If this kind of thing keeps you up at night, upgrade your ganja.

Trivia: The last song played by one of the rock stations in Las Vegas before New Years 2000 was REM's The End of the World. First song played after the New Year: Pearl Jam's Alive. We all thought that was funny as hell. But we were all shitfaced too.

Oh, it doesn't keep me up at night, and there's obviously no point in worrying about things that are beyond my control. All I can do is prepare myself for whatever changes life may have in store, something I have already taken adequate measures for.

I posted that to get feedback from people who are geologists and engineers to satisfy my curiosity.

Yeah but guys come on, let's get serious.

There is but 1 question to address....

what about those cute cuddly dolphins :)

Watch out, the Sea Shepherd might start throwing water balloons at oil rigs.
