alright, for you tech guys.

I have a gopro 3. I uploaded on my macair and they play back fine, no problems watching the files on my computer. I went to email them to some friends and also upload on youtube and no worky. Just shows a black screen, sound works though. I guess its the format? Do I just need to download a converter? I tried opening the files up from the email I sent and it just was black in playback. I'm not the best when it comes to tech shit.

Please...be gentle.

I just straight uploaded them to my computer, I just got this camera off a friend for dirt cheap and took it diving. I think it is mp4 format. I haven't downloaded any software for it. Just plugged it in and imported the files.

I've only played a little with the GP3 on a couple of jobs. Really great in & under water! But I have not really done any post work. It creates a BIG file..... a 1 min clip is close to 300mbs. Try converting to a smaller file size.

What software are y'all using to resize or convert? I am not a tech guy but can figure it out if I got some software.

A friend of mine just uploads his to Dropbox and sends out links. I was just wanting to put them on YouTube but they ain't workin.

Mongo, so after doing a lot of reading tonight, looks like I need to download CineForm and use it to convert my videos on avi, mov, etc which would make it easier to upload to youtube and also down the resolution?

I uploaded the videos straight off the camera onto my mac and I can watch them no problem, its just when I go to send them to someone or upload them to youtube I can't. I guess its the mp4 format throwing it off.

After looking around on the basic software, Quicktime has options for converting for different uses like Youtube, mail, etc....
Tested a 286mb MP4 shared to iMovie setting & it converted to a .mov at 56mb.

I'm sure Cineform gives you more options on how you want to convert but since you're using a Mac thought you would have Quicktime already.

It could also be a frame rate issue. It depends on the player you're using and what it accepts. Dealing with 60 fps can be a pita, so I'm sticking with 30.

Great point. Most systems should handle an MP4 just fine - they're pretty universal. If you have iMovie on your mac, you can give that a try, or there's always MPEGStreamclip, a free, and highly versatile conversion utility for Mac.

For playback, on Mac or PC, I recommend VLC. It's free, and plays everything.
