Ok, so I looked under there and the linkages look ok, all hooked up. Little muddy though. Anyway, I can't get it to go into high or low, just stuck in Neturel. I can move it left and right to lock and unlock. If I put transmission in drive/reverse and push hard on CDL it will make a slight grindding noise but not go in fully.

If you remember from awhile back, What happened was I was driving alond and all of a suddden it felt like it sliped into netruel.

Any ideas, there was no noise or clunk when this happened either.

Put the transmission in neutral and get it rolling just a few feet in the driveway. That tends to loosen stuff up. Just keep your foot on the break. Do not try to put in hi/low if the transmission is in drive... bad juju.

Neutral, VERY Slight Roll helps going from hi - lo. Lastly, you could be getting a solinoid lockup. There is a 'noid that prevents it from going to into LO or vice versa if you are moving more than a snail's pace. Sometimes this fails, but mostly while it is in Hi or Lo. Hell, I guess it could lock you in neutral.

no matter what this thing is not going into hi or low. I undid the linkage and it looks like the silinoid may be the problem. I can't get it to rotate into hi or low no matter what. Tomorrow night I willtry to remove the silonid and see if that helps. Oh and I am very familiar on how the CDL works, I have had the trans in netruel. I even got it rollong a good bit.

It obviously wasn't clear from your question if you fully understood how it worked, etc. We were just trying to be helpful instead of posting like many do on this forum... "Learn to drive without CDL first stupid..."

You get my drift... I would prefer that people explain the basics and go up from there, rather than be butt heads. You know.

Good luck with the 'noid!

Sorry man, I hope my second post didn't sound mean or something. However it does get irratating when people post the obivious, but then again there are a lot of people on here that don't know anything at all. I really wasn't thinking outside of the box, I figured you guys were just posting the obivious and not helping. Anyway, yes I think it may be the silinoid (sp). I took the linkages apart but still cant get it to move on the t-case.

Whats the easy way to remove it, I can barley get my hand down the hole in the console after drilling rivits. From underneith it looks pretty tough too.

I took mine out from the top. I don't think you can from underneath, at the very least the driveshaft would have to be undone but even then I don't think there is room.

there was a recent post where a guy got the solenoid out from underneath by removing the rear DS ... claimed it was pretty straightforward ... I did mine while I had the console out to do the CDL ...

It is pretty easy from under the vehicle- you remove the rear driveshaft and the parking brake, then you just reach up there and undo the cap that covers the solenoid and pull it out.

It's dirtier than removing the center console, but I think it is easier on you and your interior.

However, if you are going to do CDL work at the same time then going from the top might make more sense.

I couldn't get my hand down there either- and the local Rover shop said that it was easier from underneath...however, be careful about dropping the rachet when you are under there. It hangs up on the Transfer case and then falls and hits you in the face...not that I had that happen...more than once...
