Hey all. Two side wall tears and I was wondering if anyone has a spare mk3 tire I can borrow? I think the tire shop is open tomorrow

Sorry for multiple posts, I am on the phone... I seriously drove off of top of the world down to Dewey on the shredded tire after two side wall punctures. Waiting at holliday inn for the store to open.

Did you get fixed up in Moab with tires? That's a long way off Top of the World on shredded tires to get back down to the Dewey Bridge and then back to Moab.

Got to Dewey on three... The Jeeps with the tourists were looking at me down their noses...

The locals on the trail got out, talked to me, and we decided that I could make it to the bridge without an off-road recovery. Moab is a great place with friendly people.

I got towed back to town by Chris of National Towing and called Chip to see if he had 19 inch tires before I had National tow me to Grand Junction using my AAA. Got a set of 4 tires, reattached the ABS sensor, and drove back to Moab with no error codes.

Got back in ABQ friday and bought a used rim off of e-bay for 120 shipped.

It was a great adventure and I will buy a second spare before I return to Moab. The sandstone is really rough and I have not experienced a sidewall tear like that before on any trails, let alone two in 5 minutes the snow made it easy to slip on delicate ledges...

The local people were amazing and bent over backwards to help me.

P.S. The stock rangie was impressive comapred to the LR3 and Disco 2 I have had off road before...

Wow!! Did you ever have an adventure. So you got towed to Moab and there were no 19" tires to be had and had to get towed 110 miles to Grand Junction then? Wow! Top of the World is a fairly rocky trail with some sharp stuff in places on it. You had more guts than I would to take street tires on it especially with snow masking the rocks. Glad you made out OK. I've always found the Moab area people friendly and helpful including the Jeep people.

I was fine until I turned and started going down slippery ledges... It is hard to avoid sharp rocks when the 5K pound truck wants to slide into it. Thanks for checking up... I was just hoping someone in town would have had a spare mk3 tire and wheel so I could drive to Grand Junction last Friday to get the tires replaced myself, but Chris suggested that I just use the AAA towing since I had it and am renewing in February.

You'd be surprised... Last July, there was not a 33x12.5R15 BFG AT to be found within 50 miles from, of all places, Ouray, CO.

Somebody, open up a good tire store in this neck of the woods, halfway between Ouray and Moab.

Lots of tire stores in Montrose, CO. It disappoints me greatly they did not have the BFG AT size you needed last July. We are only 35 miles N of Ouray. The BFG AT's are very popular around here. With the economy the way it is nobody seems to want to keep much in stock at any kind of store anywhere but as popular as wheeling is around here especially in July that is really a load of crap.

One of the tire stores in Montrose was able to order the tire and get it next day (the unfortunate owner of the truck had to pay premium for it).
But I was indeed surprised that not a single store had one of the most-widely-used tire, in one of the most-common sizes, in stock.

Many years ago I busted a 245/75R16, and picked up a single used one at a gas station in Ouray. No new ones around, either.
