Thanks Marc. I have to remove my exhaust to get the old 24v starter off so I won't be able to get around that step. I'm switching to 12v so I have a few options now. You know how much the Mean Green ones are running?

have you asked a local starter/alternator shop about a rebuild and 12v conversion?

Hmmm, interesting. I hadn't really thought of that. I had "heard" that you could convert the 24v generator to 12v, but no one could confirm or knew anyone that actually had done it. Guess I need to make a few calls. Thanks for the idea!

no prob. I'd much rather do a local rebuild than buy a proprietary starter like mean green.

I might give him a try then. He's still quite a bit lower in price that a Mean Green. I think I'm still gonna get the free one from my friend locally until I get everything sorted out, then I'll break out the bucks for the fancy schmancy one. Thanks for the good feedback on it!

Yes, just buy/get a free one. Series starters do not lead a hard life and are insanely overbuilt for what they have to do (turn over a 4 banger with 7:1 or 8:1 compression).

I want to give my friend some dough for the starter because he is always so willing to help and offers me free stuff way too much. What is the going rate for a used Series starter (not rebuilt or tested)?

Thanks!
