I need to get a torque wrench for my engine rebuild. I'm looking at either CDI (owned by Snap On) or precision instraments (also makes wrenches for snap on. l'd like to get a split beam because ease of use. I can't seem to find one that goes low enough for engine work I.e 5ftlbs and up. So it looks like a micrometer click type. What do you guys suggest?

i prefer the CDI / Snap-on torque wrenches over mac or matco personally, but that just personal preference. i have never had problems with any of them not performing properly, it's mostly an ergonomic/feel thing.

i use tool testing labs for all of my certification stuff at work, and wouldn't you know it they also sell tools. http://www.ttlcal.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=76
in my brief internet searching they have pretty good prices. much cheaper than you will find from snap-on for the very same exact tools you would buy off the tool truck. you can get the torque wrenches marked in ft-lbs or in-lbs, in 3/8" or 1/4" drive.
