Need to make louder!

I hava a 99 disco II. I feel that i needs to be louder and have a presence when driven. I need some help with what to do. Exhaust? or what ever is needed to make it louder. I would also like to make it a little quicker since the v8 seems a little weak. I thought about adding a different intake but want to make sure that it will help

Alex, im looking to make my rover louder as well. Couple of things ive found to do is (duh) new exhuast. Flowmaster is the loudest you could possible want aside from no cats (thats not illeagle or anything ). Also, if you go down to your local muffler shop you could have your resonator cut off (that big cylinder near the tip of your exhaust), i was quoted at around 15 bucks, but if you can cut/weld then its free . heres a link to the thread i started on flowmasters for more info on that route. http://www.discoweb.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5958&highlight=Flowmaster

Noise is easy, and you have arleady seen the suggestion... remove rear resonator. Faster is a whole different "kettle of fish"! The Disco is a big heavy truck. If you really want more "go" you need a bigger engine (more cubes), and the best suggestion is to find a 4.6 Rover engine and go from there. Beyond that you are in to major surgury to use a big heavy American V8...

If you really want a big fast truck, the Disco really is NOT it!

so it sounds like a toss-up between the flowmaster 40 and 50 series. Now how are they the same and how are they different. Also if i cut off the resonator will it still pass inspection....or will it fail.

I am running the 40 on RR 3.9 ( dont remember the diff from the 50, maybe size ?) don't think second muffler matters for inspection, just makes it a little quieter--dont' have any sound bites !

Put down the windows and crank the stereo, that's just as annoyingly loud and obnoxious, and doesn't cost you any $$.

crawl under your truck.

find the cats. right about in the middle.

cut out anything after that with a sawzall.

take it to a muffler shop (if you cant do it yourself) and have them weld a straight pipe running out the back.

To each his own for louder, but if you're going off road (I hope), keep in mind that while grinding away on a trail, that noise will grate on your nerves. Also, too little back pressure will kill your mileage.

If you want a loud Disco- just cut or let the cats get knocked off by driving over some large rocks! Why then, then everyone will think you have a 500ci Hemi in it!

I don't know, I know alot of gay's that drive quiet cars, even Discos.
Loud Discos are obnoxious though. Stereo or engine, either one.

The best way to make a Disco fast is to buy a Subaru WRX STI. $30k

You could do both! You could burn a CD with the sound of a Harley at full throttle with straight pipes ... then play it thru an externally mounted loudspeaker ...

seems to me like most people are older here....but im 17 and have a disco. thats right...2nd car and its a 99 disco. Now at 17 did u want a quiet car..........hell no!....so what muffler is the best...and who has any soundclips

Nobody likes wheeling or camping with someone with a loud, obnoxious truck. Don't be "that guy". Leave the loudness for your street car.
