I pulled the carpet and pad on my new to me DI and found rust (shocker I know...) It's pretty bad along the outer edges and is through the steel from the rear corners about 1/2 way up. I'm not a welder although I'd like the learn but I know I would not be able to handle this so I was thinking of bolting a sheet of aluminum in place of the rusted floor. I am also going to get an estimate to have it welded in.

I'm sure that many of you have dealt with this, what did you do to repair it and how did it work?? Diamond plate anyone??

I was thinking of bolting the aluminum down with a barrier between the layers but I'm concerned if it will be strong enough.

Here are some pics to give you an idea of what I'm working with.
Lunch, about what did that job run you? I like the playground mat idea under the I/O carpet-how is that holding up?

hay caramba!!!! you have alittle fabricating to do.
Iwould say cut out the whole area, replace the edges with like material.
as for the center piece go to a junk yard and ge the floor board off a pick up bed.
rivet in place, it is all ready painted and once you are finished all you have to do is rust proof the under side.

I got the galvy steel locally for about $50. The seam sealer was $20ish. POR15 was $20ish. Neighbor owns a body shop, so the rest was free. The pad and carpet are from Lowes. Cheap and works great.

I like how that would be very easy to take out to clean and get up any water under the floor, I'll bet it works better at noise/heat dampening too.
