My engine is shot......................

I want to purchase a Brand New one. Where would be the best place to get one. So far I'm leaning towards one from Turner in the UK with the T-top Liners. Any suggestions? Besides get a Toyota.

You know, there's really only about a $3K-$4K difference between the diesel conversion and a 4.6 swap or rebuild. When you consider the diesel will net you at least 10 more MPG (24+ vs. 14), if the rig is a daily driver that investment comes back in 12-24 mo's. All downhill from there.

Do the International diesel conversion from M/D for $9K. Otherwise yes TurnerUK is the next best option at $6K. Or you can troll the parts forum for a low-miles swap or rebuild. Last rebuild I saw here went for $2,500 which was an absolute steal if not botched; the risk of which you carry yourself.

Can you provide a link to the one for $9k? I only see the kits with new engines for $10000 after conversion not including shipping, which would be a good chunk too.

Since you clearly specify Brand New in caps, bold, and underline, I'm going to follow directions and make the obvious suggestion of Atlantic British. They sell 4.0 engine blocks for 4 or 5 grand. Some of the parts might be remanufactured but they hype the liners as having been fixed.

I, on the other hand, also agree with the recommendation to consider a rebuilt used motor. The money you save can be spent on beer, gas, or more parts upgrades.

I have 2000 discovery with the same problem. I need a block and have been looking around for a used engine but seems like i may run into the same problem as i have now. Slipped liner/cracked block. I am curious to see what you end up doing.

I had mine rebuilt. Put together with ford connecting rods. Decked the heads 30 thousandths and performance cam. With the shorter rods the displacement is about 5.0. The motor is strong, fast, and cheap.

Mine runs as hot as 211 at idle and about 195-198 when moving. It seems hotter than I would like. I would like to rid it of sai and do an online thermostat, but that battle is for another day

Mine runs at 90C/194F all day no matter what speed, jumps up to 92C/198F at idle. This is with a new standard thermostat and new water pump. I flushed the heck out of the coolant system, removed the radiator and lay it flat and soaked it with vinegar. I also soaked the heater core. A ton of shit came out of there, I think someone had used leak stop or something. Filled with peak 50/50 and water wetter.

I have roughly the same temperatures.

The only dicision I have to make now is weather to go with RPI or Turner. The prices are roughly the same.

I live in Canada so if I import the engine from the UK there is no duty. I checked with a customs broker and it has something to do with the fact that I'm buying the engine from its country of origin. If I got one from the US I have to add about 30%.

I have a long engine from the UK for less then I could get a short engine from the US. Shipping from the UK is roughly the same for me as shipping from the East Coast.

There are no used engines in my area and I'm not willing to take a chance on one considering the shipping expense.

I figure I will have spent all of $6000 ($6070 US) by the time I install the engine.
