Hi,

Totally new to this forum and I am not a Land Rover guy (I'm into FJ40 Landcruisers), so if I ask or say something stupid, please forgive me. If I have the wrong forum for this question, sorry, not sure where to start either.

I'm actually here on behalf of a buddy of mine. I posted a link below, I'm hoping you can click on it and open up the thread from another site where I hang out. That is where I got the link for this site.

Assuming you were able to open up the thread, there are 3 pics at the top with a Land Rover. A buddy of mine just bought it. He is wondering what it is? I think it's in the 50's, but not sure. I also think it had a full top at one time, but the hillbilly's that owned it before cut it off, I think?

What is it? Something unique or cool? Worth doing anything with? Thought I would ask?

Thanks for any info your able to provide, Matt

A good resource for identifying what it is, is the lrfaq, located here: http://www.lrfaq.org/FAQ.2.Ident.LR.html

A couple of the tell-tale signs are;

inverted T grill
headlights near the grill
pick up [i believe only the series I's and series IIa 108" were pickups, could be wrong]
from what I could tell on the picture, there is no bonnet-mount for the tire
other than that, you can identify it through the instruments panel and size of it

definitely a classic though, and worth restoring!

From reading furthur on that link I posted:

If the pick-up top is flat, angled and rising to the rear with three ridges running for to aft, it is a Series I.

Check the left hand engine mount Has a series of numbers Depending on year, number should read something like L 06******* for a 1950 model then 16****** for 1951 and 26***** etc for '52 up to "55 which had 57******
After that the numbering system changed 1956 was either 11********** or 12*****

Hope that helps David

It's a Series I, one can tell because the doors are flat, Series II introduced the wider body and curve just below the door top half.
It could be the original pickup cab (called a regular) but it's hard to tell for sure, not being that intimate with the Series I and not able to see the rear of it.
Those are the lever operated Dualamatic locking hubs. The two little levers swing out and rotate to engage. Sometimes the vehicle needs to rock to engage them as they aren't spring loaded.
That's about the limit I can tell you from the pictures there.

Nice restoration project.
If your buddy decides he wants to sell it, let me know.
There is a mailing list dedicated to Series vehicles, very knowledgeable people on it.

Feel free to give your buddy my email address. If he wants to send me more pictures I can help him identify it better.

Ryan, regular (pickup) cabs were available every year and still are.
