So basicly i've not posted on discoweb for years now, well maybe a year to two years. I had (past tense) a 97 XD with almost complete safari gard JEK stage 2 3 link all bells and whistles mod's done disco, when i rolled it three times down a cliff at hollister hills off road park in nor cal. here is the chance i give everyone to poke fun at a 17 year old kid with an amazing piece of equiptment being reckless and too fast off road and crashing. because quite frankly that's what i did. I still have the 3 link in my garage along with the husky winch but that's about it. ANYWAY>...... the reason for my post is my re found love for landrovers. My dad's had a 00' Trek original competition speked up disco for a while now, so i never really lost interest, and i love talking tash to friends who are all about yota's and fords and such with respect my dad's trek, but this month in "four wheeler" magazine there is pretty much the most amazing D1 i've ever seen, the guys done some minor ECR, or GBR i can't remember, mod's to the axles and is running 35's. I specked it out to cost about $7587 (alright i didn't estimate...) for all the modifications, and i just completly fell in love with them again. I was born and raised in england so ther's nothing i love more than rubbing in landrover's prowess to my toyota friends and such. The other week my dad and I pulled out a kid in a subaru wagon and F-150 4x4 from some mud off a nationl park near my house, and i just loved it when the trek winched their sorry asses out after it danced around them to get the right possition in the same mud they'd been stuck in.... haha i'm sure most of you would have loved it too. But.....back to my point. I have little money, and we have a jeep grand cherokee as a snow vehicle (don't ask why we didn't get a D1), and i just HAVE to do these mods from the article, (which is a mix of what i was going to do to the xd + alot of improvements) to another D1. What's the market price for D1 these days, with relativly low milege. because as my best friend and toyota die hard keeps reminding me landrover's need engine work, he has 300,000 + miles on his 1990 4runner, when i had a top end rebuild on my 80,000mile XD, and any input, pokes at the stupidity of rolling my XD dream machine, and plans for a future D1 would be greatly apreciated, if not for insightfull input, just for sheer boredom. But yeah, i feel better now venting, and posting for the first time in months. That's it i think......

I only wheel with jeeps these days. I haven't seen another Land Rover on the trail in...2 years?? And hell, I organized the ride.

My 109 is nowhere near as capable as the jeeps I wheel with. My 109 is almost stock while they all have giant lifts and tires, upgraded this n' that...whatever.

In the end, they are all scrambling to somehow make their jeeps different. If you look, damn near every jeep out there is the same: TJ with 33s, lockright in the front axle, and a Warn M8000. People start spending some big $$$ or a lot of time to make their jeep different.

Another thing is that jeeps are actually pretty fagile, semi-floating axles and weak stock suspension components. My 109 can take a damn beating and still keep going. Broken axle? A moderate inconvienence. Destroyed exhaust? Not even worth looking at. Broken control arms?? WE DON'T GOT NO STEEKIN CONTROL ARMS!! I carry a lot of tools and parts so I can get my jeep buddies off the trail. For a while, I was carrying around a spare 31" tire, spare axle shafts for front and rear axles, control arms, and steering components. All for jeepers. I got the room, and the extra weight didn't bother the 109. Hell, I drove all over Tellico with 4 35" tires in the back of my 109. Except for an extreme off camber situation, I couldn't tell the difference. The jeep guys can notice a performance difference between an empty and full tank of gas. The only difference in fuel load for me is that with a half tank, I can hear the fuel sloshing around.

All those other guys spend a hell of a lot of time working on their rigs. Land Rovers are pretty good out of the box. Land Rovers can carry a load over difficult terrain without any problems. Land Rovers can tow (I'd like to see a TJ tow a 240sx). Who do you think gets called to go rescue someone? The 109 with its workshop in the back. Just remember, keep your mouth shut and let your rig do all the talking.

Yotas aren't the only vehicle that go 300k. A guy here has a RRC with 290K on it and its still going strong. He wheels it hard.
