SCSL may be right! If LR drops the solid axle I'll have to buy a TJ when I wear out the D1! And don't think they aren't thinking about it I think LR and Jeep are both testing the water. Can you say freelander and liberty? Most people buying 4X4's don't know the diff (get it!) and will roll over for cheaper overall prices. Plus if your driving it around on the street most of the time who really needs a straight axle up front? I DO! ;)

It's already happened,,,none of the new line up has solid axles,,,LR3, RR, FrLndr,,, where are we going as a humanity? I'm tellin' ya,,,,add campaign for new "defender" will involve P-Diddy rolling up w/ 20" spinners,,,,, not to retread old ground here, but I just can't bring myself to believe there isn't a solid market for a 'real' Defender given the continued success of Jeep OR that making a 'real' Defender is cost-prohibitive. Hell, if Solihull auto workers have been spoiled to the point where they simply can't make a quality product at a rational price, move production somewhere else. An Indian can turn a wrench or operate an assembly line as well as a Brit. They certainly don't struggle with writing code. Hell, make 'em in China (then you could sell 'em at Wal-Mart,,,,,,, :D )

Hey, man you should get another D1 or a D2 if you wear it out. Don't go to the dark side man, hold on. You could always convert to solid axle, the Toy guys do it all the time I think.

Damn, it happened while I was sleeping! I'm not real familiar with the new line up because they are out of my price range for a 4X4. Its seems like LR will be just another 4X4 with a higher price tag. :(

Here is the deal. If what they are saying in that write-up about a no nonsense vehicle is true, then more power to them. If they create a LR version of the H3, then it should be promptly driven off a cliff.

We can't deny that a new body style will happen, NAS or otherwise. I hope it isn't like that those sketches show.

We can't deny that modern innovations are sweeeeeeeeeet.

I don't mind independent suspention as long as it is made for off-roading. Ya, we all like the solid live axle, but hey, 99% of the time, even if you are a hard core off-roader, you don't NEED one or the other.

I wonder if this is the new model they are STILL talking about on the G4 web site?

It won't be the same looking down the side though and notseeing rivots and wavy panels, or manual air vents. Whether you are an off-roader or just an enthusiast, the Defender had a character about it that no other vehicle could match, not Jeep not Hummer. When the new one comes out it just won't be the same. Doesn't matter if it is a 100% improvement in all aspects. I just don't think the same level of passion people have for the current defender will be there. However, will it sell? Of course, probably better than the current one because it will be more appealing to a larger group of SUV buyers. Just my thoughts.
