I posted up a while ago looking for buying tips and just picked up an '04 (black with tan interior) with 105000 km (65000 miles). I bought an extended warranty too. Unfortunately it didn't come with the owners manual, so until I round one up I will probably be asking some dumb newbie questions. I'll start with fuel reserve, anyone have any idea how far these things will go after the low fuel light comes on? I guess another question would be does anyone have a Canadian owners manual for an '04 SE7 or know if they are any different than the US ones? (there are several on ebay).

Thanks, Russ

At your mom's
Every tank and sender may differ. Mine is roughly 5 gallons.

Do this...
  1. Determine tank capacity. (check manual or someone else may chime in)
  2. Drive until low fuel light comes on.
  3. Fill up as soon as possible.
  4. Subtract fill up amount from tank capacity. This is the amount left in tank when light goes on.
Subtract a gallon for safety.

Example:
250 litre tank,
Light goes on, fill up, 215 litres.
250 l-215 l = 35 litres
Save yourself inevitible grief by figgering 20 litres reserve.

As sending units age, and floats become cracked, the reserve quantity will change.

Do your pump and filter a favor by keeping above 1/2 tank when possible.

I just picked up an '04 se7 and, like you, have asked stupid questions because mine didn't have the docs either.

As for the light, I have noticed that you have at least 5 gallons. The book says 3, but I think it comes on with 5 left. I say this because I routinly run my till the light comes on and then some. I have never been able to put the alloted 25 gallons in the truck. Typically like 22. So I figure that when the light comes on, you have at least 100 miles.

As for the stupid questions.....run your Landy and ask them, it will prevent me from asking....lol:rofl:

Get the rave-cd its worth it. AND ITS FREE. Dont know how to post the link. May be some one else can. It has the manual on the disk. Got my self a binder and hole puncher and copy the main things I needed and keep it in the car. Or just keep going to the computer when you need info.

Remember that your in-tank fuel pump is cooled by the fuel around it. I gave my niece my old Chevy truck with 120,000 mi on it. Her boyfriend ran the tank dry, coasted into the gas station, but the truck wouldn't start after filling it up, even with a new fuel filter. He'd burned up the fuel pump. I make a habit of never going below 1/4 tank on either our Rover or other trucks for this reason.

I wouldn't chance trying to find out how low you can go, just don't let it go below a 1/4 of a tank.

I learned the hard way that some Disco fuel gauges have a slight "reading" problem when I was trying to see how many miles I could get on a tank of gas after buying my 2003. The local dealership informed me that I should always fill up at 1/4 of a tank when I called them from the median of a busy highway.
