Hi,

I just picked up a 91 Classic RR County :) picture attached, it has 84K original miles and was maintained at the dealership since new until 60K miles. I have owned Discos in the past so not familiar at all with the classics and have a few basic questions:

1) The Rover is lifted 3 inches with 35 inch tires from a Defender, but is missing the 2 rear shocks, it just has the springs. What will be the correct brand and model shocks that need to be added to make the vehicle me stable? I would also appreciate a link if possible to a sponsor vendor or online vendor that would sell this.

2) The brake master cylinder is leaking and I have the ABS light on in the dash. Will Rovers North be the best site to source the replacement parts?

3) The Drivers door does not open from the outside and the real tall gate is also quite finicky. Again, would Rovers North be my best bet for the replacement parts or for this model I will have hunt on eBay with the hope of getting lucky?

4) Is there a vendor that sells the leather or vinyl seat covers for this model? I think the fronts are beyond repair at this point.

5) Also, I am looking for a replacement carpet kit to get the interior sorted so would appreciate a link t a vendor that sells this.

I will drop of the vehicle for my mechanic to go through in detail and change all fluids, replace the spark plugs, also have an AC leak that needs to be sorted.

6) What other common items should I have the mechanic focus on?

Appreciate any guidance and information on my questions.

British Pacific/Atlantic British would have some of the parts you're looking for, but probably way high. Check the Dweb dismantlers ( Drillbit, will tillery, john gadd) for used parts. PTSchram or Justin (Lucky8) may be able to get you new parts.

For the door, it's probably the adjusting rod. Search the range rover discussions for advice.

I've looked for replacement covers for the seats, and haven't found anything under $1000. For that price, have a local upholstery shop quote you custom seats.

I second the suggestion for sourcing your parts from vendors who frequent Discoweb. Over the years I have saved a small fortune by ordering parts, both new and used, from PT Schram, Will Tillery, Marty (Drillbit), Paul Grant, Lucky 8, and others. Seek them out and they will do you right. Also download the RAVE (technical manual) for free here:

http://www.landroverresource.com/

Ask for advice and help on Discoweb, use the search function liberally, and be sure to donate to the site to keep it free of ads.

Doing the fluid changes and spark plugs yourself is a great way to begin to gain familiarity with your Rover. Unless you have a money tree there is much savings and satisfaction to be had in working on it yourself.

Go have a look at rangerovers.net. Your best resource for information and active RRC people.

If your guy is a good mechanic, trustable and worked on rovers, just have him give you the list and start knocking them off as you can afford.

I have never really done any preventative maintenance on my RRC or D1. Just keep up with regular maintence and fix shit when it breaks. Buy stuff from vendors on this site for sure. There are some that have links and posts here and stores on ebay.

I actually can't believe someone would sell a car with the drivers door not working. That is funny as hell. If they did not tell me that BEFORE I went to see it, that might be a deal breaker right there. I hope it improves for you.
