Hi, rack flooring looks great. I'm wondering what it's for though, is it mostly for looks or is it for carrying something specific? Also how heavy is this stuff?

SD racks are not particularly easy to stand on absent the flooring, it also facilitates better carrying of smaller pieces of gear at times.

Mostly I'd say it is useful because kids inevitably climb on rovers with racks (adults too) and the flooring makes it a great platform.

What 1920 said. It's also very light. I have two extra sheets that I picked up that I put in the rear of the Disco (they fit perfectly in the storage area) for camping when it calls for rain or the ground is muddy. Makes a great platform outside the tent for taking off muddy boots and keeping them relatively off the ground to keep from tracking crap into the tent. The second one keeps coolers and other cooking stuff off muddy ground, too. Bonus if you have to do any work on the truck when on the trails or whathaveyou they provide a platform for sitting on or putting tools on off the ground, etc.

Another bonus: if you're stuck in mud or sand or snow with no winch or tow recovery options, you can place these mats under the wheels for traction.

Also makes a great spectator platform with plenty of room for a chair and cooler.

I just completed adding the flooring to my SD rack thanks to this thread. Thought I'd give back by offering up a 15% discount code that Farmtek just sent me for someone who can use it:

FW1756 - one time use and expires Sept 1

Non overlapping.

6 month update: flooring still working perfectly. I've had to replace exactly one (1) zip tie that failed. Used the flooring for cargo, as a spectator platform, crow's nest, you name it. Working perfectly.

I did have to go back and replace several ties where the sheets bend over the curved portion of the rack. As the warm weather and sun let the plastic relax and conform to the rack, some zip ties didn't have as much tension on them and were loose.

The ties will require periodic replacement. I'd inspect them once a month, and replace them at least yearly.

I used that stuff on my rack for a long time, and liked it quite a bit. Changing over to solid material did a lot for keeping the vehicle cool on sunny days, but I honestly think the chicken floor or expanded metal is a better way to go for using it as a rack.

If I recall, I managed to use only three pieces, but left the little bump open. Looked rather nice; just two levels with the angled section uncovered.

Cheers,

Kennith

I used the overlapping style, for no real reason other than that is what I hit when ordering it. Mind you this stuff is now about a decade old and has been on two different racks (high and low SD).

3 pieces...with the hump missing a sliver. Loss of the downforce isn't too bad until you get above 85mph.

Any wind noise difference?

I built a fairing that nests behind the Hellas which had the most reduction on noise. Don't recall a discernible difference from the flooring vs a naked rack but that was a decade ago. The flooring is a worthwhile enhancement no matter what.
