Hi all,
I just purchased a 2004 Disco as a third vehicle for camping and weekend fun. It's got 64k on the clock but only 1,000 miles on the motor. (It had the oil pump problem but LR replaced the motor) Fortunately the truck came with 2"OME lift, sliders, and rear skid plate. I'm looking forward to years of enjoying this truck.

What do you guys think I should do right away for preventative maintanance? Also what oil do you recommend? synthetic and what weight?

thank in advance.

Use search feature in regards to oil. Please do not get Chris going AGAIN......

Go to dealer and see if your truck is up to date with maintanance....

How about rebuilding the drive shafts right away?

Just get TW's from Will Tillery. I believe they are still on sale.

No, save your coin, rebuild your front drive shaft for $100 in parts (use search to find the part #s and instructions) , and take the other $250 and do the 60K mi maintenance schedule (see your manual, or search). You don't need a TW shaft for camping.

As the poster above suggested, you could go to the dealer and ask them if the 60K maintenance was done by LR (it would be in their system), if not, do it and you'll know that your at a good baseline for maintenance and you'll get to know your truck.

Where do you live? I'll make it easy for ya. You can use many different oils. Stick with a Xw40/50 weight oil. Rotella synthetic 5w40, Rotella 15w40, Mobil1 0w40 if you live in the cold. Mobil 1 high mileage 10w40, Mobil 1 turbo diesel 5w40, Mobil 1 15w50. Mobil 1 delvac 15w40, Pennzoil platinum 5w50/15w50, Valvoline synpower 5w40 . ect ect.. You can also use conventional, but if you do I would stick to Pennzoil yellow bottle 10w40 or Valvoline conventional 10w40. You can find nearly all these oils oils at walmart at a relatively cheap price.

There are also various Royal Purple, Amsoil, Redline, and Schaeffer oils but they are expensive and not needed per se.

Also, try to stay away from fram oil filters. Purolator, Mobil 1, K&N, Bosch, Wix, Royal Purple oil filters are all very good.

Fram oil filters are bad for any car. Or at least not as good. There are so many oil filters for the same or less price that are much better. Just their build quality. Their end caps are literally cardboard where as everyone else are metal. Their filtration media is mediocre at best. Also, Fram filters are known to and constantly cause dry starts. Just avoid them. Even the walmart brand Supertech filters are better. ha
