My dad ran into a guy that has this tucked away in his barn. Dad was told it was #5 off the line. I have no further info. so there is no way to know for sure. Just figured I'd pass it along.

It would be legal, as it's an antique. If you really want a 2 door Rangie, I'm selling mine. :)

Nope, Bermingham, UK. The guy hac FC's tons of Series, exotic supercars, motorcycles etc. he's a huge car nut. As for "Velar" try Google with "velar" + "range rover". I have the picture with the registration number, just don't feel comfortable giving out that kind of info that's not mine to give.

It does look very early, note the painted not vinyl C pillar. Velars were the prototypes and many variations exist before they settled on a spec.

With the chassis number and number plate you'll be able to verify its accuracy of the claim

Quoted from Wikpedia:

In 1967, the first Range Rover prototype was built, with the classic Range Rover shape clearly discernible but for a different front grille and headlight configuration. The design of the Range Rover was finalised in 1969. Twenty-six Velar engineering development vehicles were built between 1969 and 1970 and were road registered with the number plates YVB 151H through YVB 177H.

It is commonly thought that "VELAR" is an acronym for Vee Eight Land Rover, however the name is derived from the Italian 'Velare' meaning to veil or to cover. Range Rover development engineer, Geof Miller, used the name as a decoy for registering pre-production Range Rovers. The Velar company was registered in London and produced forty pre-production vehicles that were built between 1967 and 1970.

That would make this one YVB 156H?

Funny you say that I think #5 is owned by a guy in Edmonton. Wasn't it the one that was featured in a magizine where the owner crossed the sahara desert? Next time I talk to him i'll ask. that is one of the early ones though!!!
