The wiring thing makes me curious as some of the wiring for the VSS was singed from the overheating transfer case. I rebuilt the vss and its working again, but perhaps the wiring needs to be replaced. Wouldn't having the VSS unplugged get rid of this issue anyways albeit without a speedometer?

The distance from the end of adjustment to that farrel needs to be a set amount, I believe 10 mm (PT will let us all know if I'm wrong have NO fear ) yours looks less than correct please make the adjustment and report back
took her in to the trans shop today (i know a guy). They quoted me $150 to drop the transfer case and insepct. Will report back with diagnosis.
