I drain the block by taking the bolt for the water pump that goes through the front cover, then using compressed air through the expansion tank I blow the rest of it out through that hole. I'd also pull the lower rad hose. That should get most of the old coolant out, but you'll never get it all out without a flushing machine because it will stay in the heater core, unless of course you blow the coolant out of that too.
