no spark or fuel

Just replaced the head gaskets, water pump, wires and plugs on my 2001 discovery II. Had the heads redone and put all back together. Truck was running when i starting, Get done, turn the key and it just cranks. It seems to have no spark or fuel. Pulled a couple of plugs to check for spark and no spark and they were dry so i do not think i am getting fuel. Any ideas of where to start, could i have hit a sensor or something.

Maybe you tripped the inertia switch? I know that kills the fuel pump. I think the only other sensor that can prevent you from starting is a bad CKP (crankshaft positioning) sensor. Maybe you accidentally dis-lodged the wiring there.

When you put the key in the on position, do you hear the fuel pump run for a second or so to pressurize the rail? A fuel gauge is even better to check fuel pressure at the rail.

You can also get an injector "noid" light that hooks up to an injector to make sure they are firing. Maybe $20 for a kit from a local auto store - but you only need the Bosch one and some places on-line sell just that one for less.

For Fuel:
- Check all fuses and relays for pump/injectors
- Check to see if pump runs with key on
- Check for fuel pressure at the rail
- Check injector via noid light to ensure its being told by ECU to fire

For Spark:
- Check several plugs on both banks to see if any spark (or use a plug light if you have one)
- Check wiring order from coil to cylinders to make sure the plug wires are correct
- Make sure the wire connectors from the ECU to the coil packs are connected properly

Those are the basic tests I'd do first.

I assume you have a good strong battery you are using to start right? If you are not sure try jump-starting it.

yes battery was diconnected. I already checked the inertia switch. I check the spark and i am getting no spark to any plug. I have to look into the fuel alittle more, But i am thinking the cranksensor is a good place to start. Have to check that over the weekend. Thanks for your reply. Is there any way to check the crank sensor

Check your tach and MIL lamp when you crank it. If the tach doesn't move at all and the MIL remains lit, you likely have a bad CKP sensor. I think they are like $70 or so if you end up needing one. The RAVE CD says you need to use Testbook to reset the new sensor with stored data as baseline but many replace these without doing this and have no issues.

If its bad, your truck will not start or run as this sensor sends data to the ECU to control spark (ignition timing) and fuel (injector timing). If the sensor failed when the car was not running (likely in your case), the MIL will remain lit but no code will be thrown.

Thank God for the RaveCD.
