Hi All;
I finally got the engine in the Disco.
It has fuel in the rails but won't start. It doesn't seem to have sparks in the plugs. I checked the connection to the coils several times and it seems secure.
What procedure should I follow to troubleshoot?
Electronically there could be many faults that would prevent ignition.
Ugh !!!!

I would start by looking at the crank sensor, note automatic and manual sensors have different spacers so if your doner engine came out of a d1 manual and going into d1 auto it will need the old spacers on the sensor and vice versa (Im looking for a spacer for a manual one if anyone has one. might just need to make it when i do my transmission swap). Also check all the teeth on the reluctor on the flywheel. make sure none are bent or missing. also you need to check voltage across everything and grounds. make sure you didnt miss anything during the swap. Thats where i would start the search.

You have an excellent point.
When the engine "blew" the camshaft exited the rear of the engine and damaged the reluctor.
I replaced all of that, obviously but it may have damaged the sensor itself.
Whew !!! What a Mess !!!!!

You were right. I crawled under the car and found the position sensor unplugged. It cranked but it runs very rough. I will address that later.
I am relieved that it starts.
