went out this morning and had no speedometer. after 9 miles (using my gps as speedometer) it came back to life. last month it died for a second and was fine. what gives? nothing else out of the ordinary. 98 disco

Mine did this the other day....no speedo for about 4-5 miles, then I hit a bump on the wonderful California freeways (aka goat trails) and it started working again, hasn't done it since, never missed a beat. Go figure. I just wish LR would make a stouter VSS, when the orignal crapped out I put in a new one, it only lasted a few month and literally fell apart, I'm betting this one will do the same sooner or later.

Yeah, if it's ONLY speedo they're right, if the whole cluster drops it's the grounding terminal in the passengery footwell on the left side under the carpeting. That one was fun to debug.
