hello i am so frustrated right now, my fingers are frozen and my car will still not start. first let me say it is in no way the starter, this is something electrical before the starter so that there is no power going to the starter through the small wire (the battery cable is fine). It is not a product of the imobiliser switch, the fuel pump still charges the line and my brake lights work, not the ignition switch, not the relay. what else is there? please help and thank you to those who do.
95 disco 3.8l v8 auto.

i just replaced my fuse box but i was having this problem befoore i did so. do you know if there should be any wiring harness plugged into spots 1 and 2 on the fuse box, they are not spots for fuses and i am almost 200% sure i hooked everything back up and i have no conectors left that could go there.

assuming its an auto, try puting the key in the "on" position in park (so the pump primes) and then jump the leads on the starter to see if it cranks. If its a standard, there may be a clutch safety switch which will require you to have an assistant push in the clutch when you try to jump it. If its a standard, make sure its in neutral and the wheels are blocked off as you will be under the car!! Better yet, put it up on jack stands if you can.

yes that would start the car but i can't do that everytime i start the car, i know that the starter is good because it was out of the car and tested and was fine, both of the starters i have for the car are good but there is something not letting them get power.

what two wires at the relay could i hook up a tester to to determine if the problem is before or after the relay?

The starter inhibitor switch is grounding the starter relay position 86 (through the alarm) when it is in P or N. If you use a fused jumper lead and ground this position you could easily test if the switch or the alarm is causing your problem. If the starter cranks when 86 is grounded and when you have the key at pos 3, you have narrowed down the possible causes of your problem.

Best wishes,
Peter
