Back to Detroit sheet metel:

My ex father in law, who was actually a pretty good guy, worked for engine development at Chrysler forever. In 1964 he won the world championship drag racing title for the Golden Commando's (Forrest Pitcock who was was the first man in history to drive an altered wheelbase, fuel injected Hemi car in National Competition), anyway, his son (who is still one of my friends regardless of his sister) had a 67 Road Runner in college. Totally built 383, cam, open throat 4 barrell, 2200 rpm stall, that would go sideways from a dead stop. His uncle worked for PPG and laid on 13 coats of black aircraft paint with just as many coats of clear (paint job was a mile deep). That car was stone cold awsome. He now works at Landrover - Scarborough in Maine. Wanna talk serious cars, if your in the area, talk to Scott. If I remember he has just about as many cars as Kyle. In addition to a couple of Series Rovers, an old Cuda and was looking to buy an old DB3.

It's the first Mustang design to come along and really make me consider trading in my 86 GT on a new one.

Yeah I have a friend here local that is a "Christler" freak... Hemi chargers hemi cudas , just about everything with a Hemi in it including a couple of old trucks. You would never know by looking that the cars are there...

I apreciated running against Dodges as they ran hard down in the other end like the fords... My very first street race ever was against a big block Road Runner.... Ahhh the good ole days...

My step-father had a superb collection of old Camaros, half a dozen or so as I recall. One he owned was a race car called "Quick Silver" that held some sort of speed record. Car buffs all knew that car. His daily driver at the time was a T-top Trans-Am. He was the original good ol' boy, generous to a fault with a heart of gold. He had a few real-life Smokey and the Bandit-type tales to tell about out-running the cops. He had one blue and white Camaro that he drove rarely, as he said it was so fast it scared him. He fell asleep at the wheel one night, hit a tree and died in that car. I think of him every time I see an old muscle car. He was a character and a half. When we moved into his house I opened my closet door to find an Uzi hanging in the closet. With my love of firearms (ahem), I asked him to move it before I unpacked :D Great guy and I still miss him a lot, 20 years after his death.

Did it? I just said that cause we were talking about Gone in 60 seconds for a car chase movie.. I don't know any one besides you that has a mustang older then like 1980. So I wouldn't know..

Well, at least that is better then all those formula owners that had to get the light bar in the front so that they could be like that car from Knight Rider... That's almost as bad as the ricers and their LED washer nozzles..

Just good for going in a straight line ? Oh here we go..... Check the stats on that forst before you start making those statements... I seem to recall a thing called "The 24 hours of Lemans" where a few makes got egg on thier faces...I think there are still some old war horses out there running with the pack....

Different race. Here is the list of LeMans winners.. http://www.maisonblanche.co.uk/winners.html

I will say though that I have been in and seen some pretty nicely set up muscle cars that can handle pretty good.. As heavy as they are they can be setup to hold the road and brake well.. But, ya, once you hit that nice long straight patch of road all those ponies will make up some ground quick.. That's why if I had the money I'd get a kit. Loads of horse power and handling to go with it. I do have a thing for full blown engines though.. Just the sound of those beast when the gas get stomped gets me all happy... Kind of like my friends cyclone when his turbos let off presure.. He's done some nice work to that truck.. Best thing about it is it looks stock. Well, till you open the hood. :D

These days you can take any pre 71 Mustang and make it run with the best using off the shelf items. The aftermarket just never stopped making things for them ..And yes , you are right Eric , the main issue is harnessing what it has. That movie gone in 60 seconds cracks me up because if that car truley was a KR with the 427 he would have blown the tires off of it every single time you see him jamming throttle to it.You hear little tire chirps in the movie when in reality you would have seen the tach hand sky rocket and him having to stop to clean his pants.. Handling in the KR was improved slightly over your standard Mustang but it was mostly a cosmetic difference. Now you can surpass Shelby performance 10 fold with really affordable off the shelf parts....

What really cracks me up is the movies that use street burn out sounds and tire squeals when they are filming dirt road scenes.. I just want to find the sound guy and slap em.
